The more I am thinking about it, the more I wonder. Could it work?

On the advantage is the automatically spread out firing patterns, and the re-entering of larger launchers like the LRM20 which is shelf useless now. The spread is too wide and not even 20% of the missiles cause damage.

But with the change could it hit a moving target? One of the advantages now with the spread is some of it is forward, so it has a chance to hit where it may go - you need to travel damn fast to make it miss for now. The current mechanics leaves LRMs at a disadvantage against lights as their speed can dodge a good 90% of them.

But if you limit its targeting straight up, would it work? Could it?
Spread damage, less CT hits - but would it hit and work reliably?
Would increasing the LRM speed/turning ability make it adjust enough? Or too much?

Anyway, that's my stray thought for now. They say they have it in the works now. the SSRM2 would be nerfed useless with it, but LRMs could use it with tweaking maybe. Or maybe not - too much and you have Streak LRMs coming at you.

I'd like to see LRMs use the streak targeting (seeking to other "bones") in groups of 5, with Artemis/TAG/NARC tightening those groups, higher damage, and increased seeking ability.

I imagine streak lrms will be to lrms what ssrms are to srms. your right about the bones update making ssrms useless though. its basically a dice rolled weapon (keeping in mind all weaps were in TT) without any added bonuses. even at 2.5 damage per missile its unlikely to threaten light mechs until ssrm4/ssrm6 come out.

LRM's would be interesting. would probably need a damage buff as well, but that depends on how many missiles miss, since even aimed at CT a lot can miss currently.

The streak targetting is one of the weirdest and most illogical things ever, I would rather see them replacing the whole streak guidance with something else than extending its silly "bones" system to another weapon class...

LRMs would be absolutely spot on if PGI could "teach" them to use lead pursuit curve and go into AoE dumbfire mode during final moments of the flight. A mech could avoid some or most of the damage by a last moment hard turn, but even a light mech would take a noticeable damage if he just continued on a straight line.

The lead pursuit curve could be a feature on Artemis and it would be restricted to LoS mode. Indirect fire would use a pure pursuit curve like now.

The last moment AoE dumb fire would make damage distribution a purely statistical calculation, depending on a shape and hitboxes of the target mech. It would also remove a massive accuracy loss when using missiles against targets moving in a straight line. On the other hand, zigzaging mechs would be harder to hit and the damage would be shifted from CT to the sides.
