I find that a lot of time, I have bad awareness of the state that my Mech is in during a firefight. This is partially bad habits on my part, but I also feel that the way MWO convey damage information to the player is not particularly great.
Paper doll being situated on the lower left doesn't quite get the message across and I rarely glance at it. Instead, I feel that the paper doll should be on the upper right, where the lance info is, and the two should trade places. When I pug the lance info isn't useful, when I pre-made the lance info isn't useful either. Since I tend to glance up to the right for target info, putting it on the other side is a more natural (IMO) way to convey the info to the player.
In addition, B'itching Betty doesn't help when the stuff blows up. Normally things blow up and I die anyway. Can we get Betty to tell us like, "RT 25% armour left" instead? That way we have more warning about impending death and we can do something about it.

Kinda doesn't help that the destroyed and undamaged components are dark grey and black. if you are undamaged and gets hit by an alpha strike that strips your armor but does not damage your internals, unless you pay good attention you may not notice the missing armor and try to "tank" that AC/40 jager that suddenly popped into view, only to get insta cored through that big hole.
Oh wait, it said critical damage? Meh, those warning light flashes all the time anyway *shrug*.
let see.... I got.... Incoming missile, damage critical, heat level critical, base being captured, out of bounds, no signal, low battery, out of coffee. Yeah I'm totally gonna pay attention to all that.

If you do not learn to pay attention, moving the on-screen info will not help you.
What would actually help, would be armor/hitpoints details for specific locations/components. I believe there is just enough room to put armor/structure numbers on the paper doll, and HP numbers on the weapons list.
