Not sure if it's just me but ever since the May 21st patch sounds made when you're getting hit by weapons or when you lose an arm, side torso etc. have been spotty at best. There are times when I'm hit, will see the red directional marker and my armor will flash or just vanish all without any sound cue that I've actually been fired upon.
This happening to anyone else?

Yes, this "bug" occurs mostly if PPCs hit you.

This is been a massive bug to PPC's for a long time, I always get very frustrated when I get sniped by a 4-6 PPC stalker and there is no sound when the PPC hit. I hope PGI are aware of this bug it's very annoying.

Old issue still unresolved. GOt even more issue with gauss slugs hitting silently (and no cockpit shake at all), and recently had the case with AC/10 hitting me in the back from long distance.
Impact sounds (and shaking/glowing effects) seems to decrease with distance, even for the hit target... strange.

Yes for me it's not related to May 21 patch, this an old bug that happens quite often for me.

I just had this as my arm was being torn off. At least the 'Weapon xxx has been destroyed' is working to let you know you're being shot while your preoccupied...

Actually noticed this last night. It used to be rare, but during a game last night I remember thinking "hmm, sounds are a little buggy". So the rate of it occurring has gone up I would say.
