There have been a plethora of discussions about hit boxes/hit registration on the forums since Closed Beta opened up to everyone. Some of the discussions have been about mechs having torso locations that are too easy to hit. Others about taking damage to the front of a mech when struck from behind. And still others have discussed damage trasnferrence when a blown off piece is hit and how some mechs have bigger residual chunks then others (see the Zombie Centurion post). One of the biggest issues that this game has, and it isn't anyone's fault really, is that PGI took a 2d table top game and turned it into a 3d virtual reality. The art team, led by Alex Inglesius, has done a wonderous job in taking really old technical readout art, some of which was REALLY bad, and creating what we have now. But, there have been some nasty quirks with taking damage from odd angles nad how it registers. There is also the problem of mechs staying 100% true to the art.

So, how would the community feel if hit boxes were universal despite the art of the mech? It would alleviate the issue with mechs that have antennae (Cicada, Jager, etc) and the damage transference to the front of the mech because of it, would eliminate people complaining about how easy/hard it is to hit torsos based on the mech in question, etc. On the other hand, it would mean that damage wouldn't always be registered when you struck a location because the hit box may not actually be where you hit.

The problem with this is that it would be difficult to determine where to shoot on the enemy mech if their physical model didn't represent the hit boxes. Imagine this with drastically different mechs like the Catapult and Jagermech, for instance...Hunchback, Trench Bucket, and Centurion would also have some issues.
