I was just wondering if when you couple 2 single Med. Pls. Lsrs. that have a damage rating of 6 and coupled and grouped them together to fire at the same time if the overall damage rating would then be 12?

Also, along the same lines as the first question, but not exactly relating to the topic subject, if you had 2 "SSRM2's" mounted would that also take the single damage rating of 1.5 and double it? If so, then this must be true for all other weapons as well as heat generated, etc., etc...?

Note that for laser type weapons, damage is dealt over time, meaning that the actual beam deals that 6 damage over the time the actual beam stays on the target. This means that if you spray your crosshair across the front of a mech after you pull the trigger, it is possible to "hit" multiple sections, dividing the damage between them.

While it does "do" 6 damage, it is possible with sloppy aiming to do, say, ~1 damage to the left arm, 1 damage to the left torso, 1 damage to the center torso, 1 damage to the right torso, and 2 damage to the right arm... if you sprayed your shot horizontally across the mech. All approximations, of course.

Another thing worth mentioning with lasers regarding damage vs time output - pulse lasers typically do more damage over less time, which can make them a lot more effective.

A medium laser does 5 damage over 1 second, a medium pulse does 6 over .75 of a second. So if you hit a mech for .25 seconds, you'll do about 1.25 damage with a medium laser, but 2 damage with a medium pulse laser.

To explain the second part a little more, each missile does a fixed amount of damage. 2 SSRM2's then fire 4 missiles total compared to one SSRM2 launcher firing just 2 missiles

Now this is very informative info I did not know!! Definitely a strategy-changer there. Thanks for pointing that out Stokes!

Now the damage rating for SSRM's (1 launcher) is at 1.5, so is that 1.5 per each individual missile (which would make the total damage of the single launcher shot a 3) or per the shot of 2 missiles together?

It's 1.5 damage per missile fired.

So it is in fact a total dmg. rtg. of 3 per single launcher mounted then...
I usually mount 1 SSRM2 launcher on each arm and I would have a max dmg. effect of 6 when I fire both at the same time.(?)

yes

but always keep in mind that the damage rating of your mech is only effective, when you are able to bring all the damage on.

Most likely all 4 SRM/ SSRM´s will hit different locations (at least they should :() and keeping - say 4 - M-Lasers on the same place on a moving mech needs some practice as well...

so don´t be confused when your " 30 damage rating" doesn´t core a light mech instantly, even if the pure numbers say so... skill is more important than numbers
