Mechwarrior is one of those games in which everything is thrown to the player at once, and I mean EVERYTHING. Heat, ammo, armor; no regen, to auto reload, maybe a repair bay in which shutting down without backup may end up screwing you and your team over.

but the biggest problem we have right now is the fact PGI assumes that everybody knows Mechwarrior from the get-go, and the changes between MW4, hell even MWLL, is enough to throw someone off their game when converting.

I've heard rumors that a tutorial is going to be added, but my main question is, "why this late in the game? Why have you guys not helped the little guy out sooner?" sure you've added the Cadet Bonus, but that's pretty much a middle finger to everyone in the game. and from what I've seen for many months is the lack of information, the lack of drive to get help from the community, the lack of... fun. a bunch of other games have come out saying "we love our community, as they are ready and willing to help us out with new ideas we will gladly accept," such as community map voting, paintjobs, and other neat bits.

don;t get me wrong, I like Mechwarrior... but PGI, you have to start putting more faith into your community, these people are the most loyal playerbase you'll ever get (next to the SpaceSim demographic).

Hold a Contest to see who can make the best maps, best paintscheme, best cockpit items. Have a contest to have players make the best Tutorial missions (complete with voice acting and storyline). Heck, even a mini-campaign with a large number of the community doing everything from storyline to gameplay mechanics, to even the rewards.

the best part is: We'll even do it for free, because we love you so damn much.

yeah. we love you.

but you're being to close minded and unforgiving.

Developers should neverbe, because Mechwarrior will always be;

Unforgiving.

While I do agree with the whole general point of your argument (yes, MWO is currently extremely unforgiving to new players, even new players with previous MW experience), I'm going to be one of "those" people and throw out the Beta tag.

Now, if the game officially "launches" without any sort of tutorial still, then I'll be one of the first to throw a table. Until then they're still updating and upgrading the game. New user flow, while one can argue should've been a priority from the start, will eventually come. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later.

Personally though I'd rather they fix a lot of the current balance and game related problems before they work on getting new people to play :)

you can throw out the beta tag in that testing the new player experience is a valid thing to do; as a result they are making significant changes.

That said it should be an unforgiving game; if I want mega respawn death frenzy I'll play CS or TF2

very true, but I don't think PGI is using all the resources available to them. We have so many talented Programmers, artists and many other great minds who LOVE mechwarrior. I have friends and neighbors ready and willing to give PGI anything they need.

neighbors. NEIGHBORS!

I'm not going to say anything bad about PGI, but if neighbors are willing to give anything to PGI to make this game better than great, their eyes should be open as a peeled orange.

I think he meant unforgiving in the fact that the game, specifically its controls and the over-all amount of information thrown at you, is a lot to process. Basically the game has a very steep learning curve, and no tools to help scale it.

I also do agree that they DO need to help with the new player experience, though as I mentioned I'd rather they fix the other issues before bringing new players into the game.

Imagine, if you will, that you played your first few games two weeks ago when LRM's were briefly OP again. Then, two days later, everything you knew about the "meta" changed. Now you're back to PPC boating because it seems to be what everyone is doing. Then the devs end up changing that. Etc, etc. That isn't very helpful to a new player either.
