Im knew to this game and i saved up some C-Bills for a new mech. I would like to know which stalker is better for a Missile Boat build. The Stalker 5S or 5M, thanks for the info!

Neither. The 3H is the Missile boat Stalker. Unlike all other Stalkers, the 3H got 20 missile tubes on its arms, meaning it will unleash all missiles in one burst.

5S is more of an anti-lrm brawler, and the 5M is more of a tanky brawler.

I disagree I would go with 5M, its how many missiles are launched in a single volley that determines how effective they are at punching through AMS defenses from all launchers on mech, not each seperately.

3H maximum volley size = 50(52) you get this using 2x LRM 20, and 2x LRM 5 however then you have a 1.5 second difference in fire rates.
5M maximum Volley size = 35(40) you get this using 2x LRM 10, and 3x LRM 5 you only have a 0.5 second difference in firing rate though.
5S Maximun Volley size 30(32) 2x LRM 10, 2x LRM 5

As to why I would consider it better is a smaller volley size per launcher has a smaller spread so you get better accuracy for more hits, and they hit more focused so the damage is more effective.

That said IF AMS becomes common enough its on at least 1 per 3-4 mechs (about 1/20 now) then having the larger volley might help more. If you want the larger volley though the catapult or highlander can both handle 60 missile volleys so they would be better choices then maybe. (stalker does have better supplementary weapon hardpoints though)

5S would beat 5M in a very heavy missile boat environment if you plan to use both AMS, but so far this looks unlikely as LRMs are not that good yet.

I am seriously considering trying out this STK-5M

The LRM5 has a small spread to begin with so does not need Artemis as much, (though might want to sitch to it anyway) and they all fire at the same rate 3.25 second cooldown (LRM 20 is 4.75 second). I have tons of ammo, so I can either single fire them at lots of targets to keep them worried, or chain fire at a single target to keep its cockpit shaking, or do a 25 missile volley at a good fire rate. This will not be as effective against AMS especially 2 AMS, however I do have 4LL and fairly good heatsinks there too which lets me really hurt mechs with direct fire. Really need to get 3 variants though to gain the mech turning speed bonuses so you can hit lights. And yes using an XL in a stalker is dangerous so am considering a standard variant (lose alot of cooling and speed though so hard call)

If at some later point you want this Stalker to be a devastating mid range flanker, go 5M. That way you get to enjoy LRM's like a champ, but also be viable brawling in any organized play, or cbill farming.
