Well, maybe they are canon and I don't know it, but I'm wondering if PGI has taken any thought into adding some non-canon things such as Mines or Grenade Launchers. I'd love to lay down a trap of electrified caltrops around my base or lob some nades over that hill the atlas is using for cover. A medium loaded up with indirect dumb-fire sticky bombs could be the perfect counter to poptarting and allow the tarters to keep their own meta.
