Steiner Scout Lances are the best kind of scout lance.

It's ELO. 4-man premades get assigned an average ELO rating and then are assigned to a match based on that average. They can bring whatever they want. People need to understand that allowing premade groups of 4 into pug matches throws a wrench into the match maker, as it can't match ELO and weight in any decent amount of time.

I don't have a problem with it. A disproportionate number of Atlas jocks have no idea what they are doing.

PGI unaware. Too busy losing eight mans. To goons, to go pub.

I remember seeing dual Steiner scout lances on Alpine.
Of course, the result was a disaster (that team lost miserably by cap).

the matchmaker is really wonky.... yesterday I had 6 assaults in my team (pug team) and I think the opponents had just 2.....
By the way... we lost this match. Some of our Ppc-Stalkers were to greedy for points / c-bills and rushed allone, sh.t happens....

It ain't recon unless it's 400 tons of recon! All jokes aside, matchmaker is a fey creature. Sometimes you get a nice even spread of weight classes on both teams and everyone will have a jolly good time. And sometimes you have 5 Assaults on the other team against your lone Atlai and a bunch of Wangs and BJs (for the record, I don't think the YLW or BJ chassis is terrible).

I know that pug play is a far cry away from organized 8 mans, but my unit nearly always wins against a 6+ assault mech team.
Smaller mechs have their valuable place. Sometimes you just get out tonned and get slaughtered by 6 enemy atlas' at once... but with unit cohesion and decent skill a smaller team will have very little trouble against a primary assault group.
Of course if you play sloppy and let them get up close, no amount of unit cohesion or skill will save you, but lack of tactics is what gets you to that point in the first place.
My unit is currently having tremendous success with 2 scout/anti light jenners, 2 flanker centurions that double as distractions, 2 damage-per-second optimized cataphracts, and 2 dedicated brawler atlas.
The hardest match up is definitely sniper comps... but since jump jets were fixed, it's much much easier for us to deal with dedicated snipers. cents/jenners run in and harass/pin the snipers while the rest of the group heads in through cover to brawl range, hopefully to finish them off.
pure atlas' drops don't have a chance. we have extra mobility at the expense of significantly more armor, but honestly the damage is all across the boards for the non jenners.
if there is one thing cents are all stars at while their SRM's are near useless, it's pinning down larger, heavier mechs. to engage the cent, you need to present your back to the rest of the enemy team. don't turn your back, and you'll lose it before your teammates can deal with an angry anklebiting piranha swarm.
