With Community Ware fare coming up, and houses are supposed to play with their Houses ect..
I think it would look cool to add a little more house colors to the field in the form of adding an effect to the houses Color to the Lasers .. You would still have the Standard blue PPC / LG color, But if you could mix in enough of the house Color to make it distinctive to the house I think that would be an interesting aesthetic..

IE Kurita = Red
Stiener = Blue,
Davion = Red/ Yellow
Lao = Green.
Marik = Purple

So a Marik Small laser would look = Red/Purple.. MED = Green / Purple.. Large Blue/Purple.

Lao Meds would have 2 distinct shades of green.. Ect.. Maybe a Darker Green/ with the Original green behind it..

Rack it up to Trace elements/Gases found/ Used in their Equipment / fusion reactors..

Nuclear Fuel rods glow diffrently colors based on the element that powers them, Diff rents Neon Light glow diffrently based on the Inert Gas used to Fill them..

You could also add Tracer round colors / Vapor Trails the same way..

Ok, at first I thought this idea would be slightly unbalancing, as people wouldn't know what kind of laser was slicing across them.

Then, I realized that you can't really tell a Gauss from an Autocannon from the firing, at least not easily. And the lasers would be the same diameter, which is a pretty good indicator of their strength.

So, yeah, this could be interesting. Heck, allowing customizable laser colours could be interesting.

Urg! I smell a revenue stream! Personally I like to use the colour to know what is hitting me.

i would have to play with it later, but i think there should be a way to add what im saying without changing the original color enough to not know what is hitting you.. but still enough to add some flare to the beams and projectiles.

What color would unaffiliated mercs get? What about the individual clans? Besides that conundrum, I think it would mostly just confuse new players anyway, so I think its in general a bad idea.

Maybe it could work like in MW4 where the Clans' laser colors is separate from IS, but that's about as far as it should go I think.

Well under the guise of CW you have 3 options (clan is not one of them so we can ignore that part for the moment)
Join a House, Join A Merc Corp (which with enough loyallty points you can fight for a house.) and Remain Nuetrial (lone wolf it.) from the sounds of some of the various forum topics, lone wolfers will be getting the short end of the stick..

So i guess there will have to be some clarification on "unaffiliated" The "lone wolfs" you can give them Orange or White or some other mixture of none house colors... (there is a whole pallet of 16 millions colors to choose from.)
and the Merc corps when they are fighting for the house can have that houses colors..

As the person questioning what the Merc Corps get.. what do you suggest?

And granted the time line is Off but once the Clans invade, the smaller houses should join with the larger houses to form 1 super house SSLDF so that would simplify the colors again..

Speak for yourself. Gauss flies much faster, has a different muzzleblast, and seems to have a different projectile shape (though that may just be the speed difference).

I think clan should have (maybe slightly) different colors from standard, but making them different based on house is silly.

Lasers beams are light. Different wavelengths carry different amounts of energy. Blue is highest energy (with the wavelengths beyond becoming increasingly ionizing), red is lowest, and green is in the middle. Get the feeling PGI picked those colors for a reason?

Now, granted in real life wavelength is more about of what you're DOING with the laser than how powerful it is, but we're talking fake science here.

Because they have been those colors going back to... i think even the 80's cartoon used the same ones.. had better graphics in some places too.. haha

In real science you can make the same 10 KW laser have different colors based off of the gas used make it..
You can also change the color by changing the optics used in the creation of the laser, changing the diodes, so on, so on..
You can have a 1.5 MW green laser and a 5 MW green laser..

The quality/ color of the laser can changed in thousands of ways, and in a huge universe where the same materials are not found on every planted, each system would have to use materials specific to their system to create the gases, an raw materials to make the focusing crystals and lenses.. Each one containing their own unique trace elements can effect the color of the lasers differently while still producing the same output for the distance.. If you really take the time to think about it, not everyone's laser would be the same color..
