Do not read any further if you haven't watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones, the "Rains Of Castamere." The show is really good if you don't mind an excessive amount of nudity (That gets vastly toned down in later seasons) and an even more excessive amount of violence (which continues to get higher.)

But let me be absolutely clear that if you do not watch the show, you do not want to read the spoilers that are to follow. You really really don't. Please, just stop reading here. I am going to spoil my post, but people below me probably won't. Leave the thread now, trust me! This does have some BattleTech observations in it, so it's not just a big post saying how balls out insane this was. But it was.

OK, for those still reading! Prepare to have 3 years of the show ruined for you if you don't turn back now.

THIS is how the Victor Davion plot should have ended. I've always thought Rob Stark felt like a harsher, darker version of Victor Davion and was the "underdog good guy, amazing tactician, almost untouchable in every battle he is in.. totally refuses to compromise."

Remember how boring and lame the Civil War became rapidly? How predictable the ending was? Can you just picture this as the ending?

Say if Katherine got in league with some Combine people who didn't much care for Victor's involvement with them, ultimately ending to some kind of gathering and nearly every single one of the Davion family along with Victor himself was taken out in one brutal, fell swoop leaving the Lyrans as the decisive winners of the Civil War without it even getting very far.

Man. Watching this episode made me realize everything I hated about later BattleTech fiction. The cliche white hat good guys, things don't go so well for them here!

Anyway, this was probably the most "HOLY CRAP!" screams I've ever done watching a TV show. Amazing episode and man, the balls they have going through with murdering a quarter of the cast in 10 minutes!

To be fair, the show killed off less of the cast than it feels like they did. Only 3 named/recurring characters actually died (Robb, Cat, Talisa). Edmure has been taken prisoner. Blackfish went to take a **** just prior to the event, so it is presumably up to him to escape with whatever is left with Robb's men. Though, by TV standards, 3 is a lot.

I think the far more important thing isn't just the deaths of the characters, but the entire removal of the faction from the playing board. I think the Davion-Steiner thing would have been far more in the spirit of BattleTech had House Davion ended in a similar fashion to be honest.

Also you forgot Rob's Wolf, you heartless monster!

Nah. Greywind isn't a character; he's a force of nature. Though I was a little disappointed that they didn't let Greywind go down fighting, as it was in the book... but I assume that they did what they did for budgetary reasons (cost/time required to film another wolf action scene)
