Hello all,
I'm still a bit new to MWO and have a few questions. I realize there are a seemingly infinite number of threads to read for new pilots, but I only have so much time to read all of their contents - although I do appreciate the threads tailored for new people. I have been 'lone wolfing' (bad idea, I know) to get the feel for everything but I have also been tagging along with other groups of Mechs. Lately, it seems as though team work is practically non-existent in teams I am placed on - my teammates actually kill each other from time to time. That said, I would like to become a member of a team which drops in together and use the 'team speak' app I've heard so much about. I served in the Marine Corps and I truly believe that Marines are so deadly on the battlefield largely because of their emphasis on teamwork. Having mentioned that, I am desperately looking for a team as I love MechWarrior but I keep getting shredded. I'm not a bad Mech pilot and I can hold my own in either of my two Jagermechs or my Hunchback. Please help!
Lastly, I am debating the purchase of an ILYA-MUROMETS and would like to know if an AC/20 can be mounted in either arms. I'd like to avoid using a heavy standard engine in order to place that big gun in the torso.

The Ilya is one of the best mechs in the game, and you won't regret it at all. However, the heavy standard engine is a very good idea for cataphracts, because their side torsos are very large - destroy a side torso on a mech with an XL engine and it's done. Particularly when you're new and haven't learned defensive piloting techniques to protect your side torsos and spread damage around, a standard engine is a very good bet to keep you alive and fighting longer.
As to groups - there's lots, and they're mostly all happy to take on and train new players. Check out this thread here and post an application, and they'll get in touch with you.

My best advice is to experiment your builds using ths site: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
It will let you see where you can mount your beloved weapons and where. Speaking of the Ilya, nope, you won't be able to slap an AC 20 in the arms, because you have the hand and arm actuators that take away 1 or 2 of the 10 critics that the AC 20 requires, but you can mount it in the right side torso.
Use that website also to see which variants have certain capabilities, max engine ratings and whatsoever. Remember that the Ilya is one of the best hero mechs, but a Cbill variant (the CTF-3D) is actually better because allows you to leap over terrain with Jump Jets, and can do many of the thing that a CTF-IM can do, without costing true money.
About the groups and clans, there's plenty of recruiting forums for you to check in, just take a look in the international subforums or in the merc corps or house ones

At the end of this guide is information for various TeamSpeak servers.
http://mwomercs.com/...s-guide-to-mwo/
The best one for you to join is probably NA1. You can just hop on and move down to Education Center. Someone will be with you shortly to answer questions.
You should also read that guide. If you only read one that would be the best place to start.

Welcome
If you want an Ilya with heavy ballistics, a good build is called the "Ultraphract," which runs 3 UAC/5. It's an insanely damaging mech. You can use chain-fire to shoot your UAC/5s with no jam chance, or group-fire to unload on someone with a chance of jamming your guns. (A UAC/5 jam lasts 5 seconds, so this isn't as bad as it sounds.) An ultraphract might look something like this:

You can also do something similar with the Jagermech to see if you like how UAC/5s work.

Get on teamspeak, teams help a lot.
When your more comfortable and have some upgraded builds pugging can be a fun challenge to improve your skills though.

Welcome. Teamwork often runs within the lances exclusively if there is any at all. It can be troublesome; if the game were slower paced (say people heated up and overheated faster with a lower capacity) there would be a greater need to communicate with your teammates due to needing to cooperate to survive. This as well as a survival chance from a mistake. Instead, everyone can spam endless death upon you without worrying about heat in the current alpha-strike abuse-worthy heat system; so there isn't much reason for teamwork.
The muromets cannot mount AC/20s in the arms. I'm sorry. One way to tell is if it has a Hand actuator or a Lower Arm Actuator, it cannot mount one in that arm.
