Notwithstanding the typical mechanics of gameplay, the single most frustrating thing I see on the servers is the proliferation of accounts that launch and immediately disconnect once the session has begun. While I would say these are obviously bots, unfortunately I have no documented proof, but it's clearly known through out the player community (and I've only been playing for a week).

I feel the "Social" button would make such a nice place to entire the names of players you never want to jump with, [Redacted] Or maybe some kind of disconnect or inactivity threshold meter. Whatever the case, what's going on now needs to be addressed. If I never had to jump with him, I wouldn't have to worry about him dropping immediately.

No they are not bots.

Almost all of them are legitimate disconnects. With the current way you earn c-bills there is no incentive to not play the match if you can.

I used to have 0 problems with disconnecting, then a couple patches ago it hit me hard. Would disconnect out of every other match. Had to take a break because of it. Came back a couple patches later and it is not as bad as it was, but probably 1 out of 10 I still disconnect for no reason.

what roughneck said. some people are getting kicked to mechlab drop after drop after drop. i know one guy that, for a few weeks, couldn't drop at all, eventually gave up for a patch cycle or two

i suspect as you mention you've only played for a week, that what you believe is clearly known throughout the player community is inaccurate, and oftentimes the very opposite is clearly known

I've dropped with [Redacted] quite a bit in the last day or so. I doubt he's botting.

Btw "name and shame" style stuff in the forums is in violation of the TOS and can get you in a spot of trouble with the Mods.

Lastly, I agree with Roughneck...I don't know where you're getting your insider's info regarding botting in your week of game time but I would hazard a guess that "well known within the community" isn't a reliable source.

I'm sure there are a handful of farmers but most of the folks disco'ing are just having technical difficulties. Hell I had two drops with Anti where he disco'd and given his comments in TS, I'm fairly certain he wasn't botting.

Nope. Not bots. AFK/Disco farming doesn't work.

Whoever told you that those were bots was lying to you, or just plain ignorant.

I saw the same guy (not the one the op mentioned) disconnect 5 or 6 times yesterday, all from RC:N and Alpine, which makes me think there might be some map-hacking at work again. (I thought they fixed that, or is it on the "to-do" list?)

But yea, most DC's these days are legit. There is no reason to bot, there's no profit in it.

As Roughneck45 and p00k already explained, there is no real incentive to disconnect to farm in MWO.

This game is still considered to be in a beta status for a reason. There are still stability and performance issues to be fixed, that can cause all kind of weird behavior.

Even so, this thread is trying to discuss an exploit. As such a discussion would never solve the problem, but promote it instead, they are not welcome to the MWO forums. Because of that, this Thread is closed.
