This is Theo Jansen. It's a really old video and he has been doing this for a long time. But i thought these were so cool.

also after he says he has invented a new wheel, he shows the rino which carries like 3 tons if i remember.

Yeah, they're pretty cool
I've also seen tiny versions that come out of a 3D printer fully assembled and fully functional

These look awesome, but why exactly does he want these things to roam around on beaches? Is it just for people to enjoy? Also, for a vehicle, moving in only two directions would be sort of a hinderence for non-linear travel and transportation.

Whatever. I'll just watch the video again and stop asking questions.
