An Atlas doesn't tank damage per se but it does need to be on the front line dealing damage and drawing some fire away from the mediums/heavies. SRMs are kinda bad right now so I can see why you want to use LRMs. Their min range is 180m. If you're 200-250m away from the front and exposed, i'd say you're helping your team. If you're 800m away behind a hill firing LRMs, then you are not helping your team enough. An XL and a Gauss Rifle is frighteningly fragile and basically forces you to stay out of sight most of the match and the low mount of the arm weapons forces you to expose yourself to fire them. Bit of an oxymoron or something.

The AS7-K was the first mech I bought so I love it dearly but I don't agree with this build/role.

The D can do everything the K can.

Extra AMS isn't worth it.

I run stalkers often, and usually in a brawling config (love my Misery with AC20, 4 ML, 1 LPL, 1 SRM6). I find assaults can tear it up in a brawl, but the timing needs to be right. If you get focused on too early, you're going to be kibble before you can really bring to bear all 90000 guns you carry. With little long-range weaponry I typically hang back long enough until the enemy units are close enough to waddle up to and then the brawl really starts. Typically this works pretty well as the opening minutes are more long-range potshots and then hit and run mechanics. Once I have targets to engage the lighter mechs can rally around to crush targets quickly while my assault draws fire.

In other words, hanging back a little usually works at first, but sniping with an atlas....not as much.

I agree with the OP and the others stating the true purpose of certain assaults. Those saying the atlas is the mech that runs into a lance of enemy to emerge as the hero victorious are smoking some really good stuff. Keep goin Bishop, you are on a roll with your utter crap posts and ideas in this game

you are doing well to prove the old saying, "better to stay silent and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

But then, your foolishness was pretty well proven the first time you spoke.

This is basically what I used with the K way back in closed beta:

AS7-K
2 AMS
1 ERPPC
1 Gauss
1 LRM15
3 MPL

Check out this old blue vision warrior video I found on my hard drive showing it in action:

cool. just what w need, one more excuse for the Assault Mechs to cower in the rear while the rest of do the actual ASSAULT-ing (notice the word ASSAULT?).

yay to using the Hammer for support duty!

It is quite sad, really, that there really is no assualt viable mech anymore. The DDC with 6SRM 6s etc was a good 75-50 meter brawler assualt, but with the SRM nerfs a while back, that ended that. It's sjut aqntoehr stone for the OP crowd becsaue like I ahve said in teh past, balancve is ok, but when everything is OP and gets nerfed, then you have a boring game becuase it gets played nearly identically by everyone.
