Random, Several-Minute-Long Fps Drops

For the longest time, I've been having an issue where, during the game, my frame rate will drop from 60fps down to something that is absolutely unplayable.

These incidents only seem to last for 1-3 minutes, but have a tendency to occur several times during the same match. They happen both during combat (in which weapons and effects are going off) and while I am simply walking around.

My laptop's performance doesn't seem to be an issue. I can run the maximum settings and still sit on 60fps until the fps-drops show up randomly. What I've been doing to mitigate the problem is running the game on its lowest settings and running the Fix Tool that PGI released in another thread whenever I'm getting the drops again, and this appeared to temporarily fix the problem--until now.

My little 'work around' is no longer fixing the problem, and all the other threads I've seen seem to be issues with poor performance. I am by no-means a tech-savvy person, so if I could get any help with figuring out what's wrong or at least getting my game back to a playble state, I'd appreciate it.

Here is the dxdiag:

For some random reason the game randomly drops in FPS, making it at time unplayable..

Here's a relevant thread for this problem, I posted my dxdiag aswell:

Well OP, there are 2 things wrong with your setup(is that a laptop??). Number one is that your CPU, despite having 8 cores, is only 2.2 GHz per core. Number two is that you seem to be using an Intel video solution. Number two is really where most of your problem lies. Even if this is a laptop, using a discrete AMD or nVidia card would likely stop the FPS from dropping quite so much, although the processor I feel is partially responsible as well.

I guess the moral of the story is that laptops are not for gaming. Not even "gaming" laptops, which yours is not.

Edit: Unless you don't mind playing games a year or two older and on lower settings. But even then, unless you plug in an ethernet cord, you're still gonna have crappy ping times. And at that point, since you have to be plugged in to play, why not just get a desktop, since they're cheaper anyway. Yea, I don't recommend laptops for serious gaming. Especially new and upcoming games, like this one.

Besides being a laptop, there are a few things that can be worked out.

0. (chuckles) The laptop is running on AC and not on battery, correct?
1. Run with Task Manager/Process Explorer up and running. Take notice where the System idle percentage is residing (80-90%) while in MWO. When the issue occurs check where it is now. Has it dropped to almost nothing? If so there is at least one program running in the background sucking up the CPU times.
2. Control Panel, Power Options, setting to full/best performance. After that the power management may need to be tweaked. I have several posts here that describes how to do that.
3. Be aware that heat can play a role and the CPU and/or the embedded video device may be throttling down. For a few trying to run off the built-in Intel device, lowering its speed helped steady their FPS.

Edited, I believe your laptop has an ATI card in it, not sure which one though.

Yes, it is a laptop. I've played MWO on full settings in the middle of my college campus using its wifi and never had an issue with ping. I don't believe it's that sort of issue. Yesterday, for example, when I was having the issue again, my ping displayed around 30. I've played games like Final Fantasy XIV in the same setting and haven't had the problem that MWO has been giving me.

0. Yes, of course, lol. I have it sent to the HIgh Performance power setting with the AC plugged in.
1. Alright, I'll definitely give that a shot. I hadn't gotten around to trying the Game Booster I have yet (it supposedly shuts down background programs while you're running a selected game) to see if it solves my issue. I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it.
2. I've already been doing this, as mentioned above. What other posts are you speaking of though?
3. How exactly do you do this?

(Fixed, because the 0 threw me off xD)

Touch up on the program part. One of the programs that kicks in is Microsoft's Media player network Sharing. A few members have identified it as the primary culprit. Another is disabling Windows Aero.

Disabling turbo boost. Think of Turbo boost as a temp OC of the CPU. Unfortunately for laptops due to power design then Turbo Boost kicks in, it does not increase the speed of all the cores, only a few of them. With that increase on the few cores, besides power increase, is a heat increase. Then if the heat on that one or two cores reaches a specific threshold the CPU speed is dropped below the set value to allow the CPU to cool off.

With the link listed, use 98 or 97% instead of the listed 99%. This is cause many who needed to do this did not see any change in behavior at 99%.

I have played more powerful games such as Crysis 2, Fallout 3 and Starcraft 2 which require good amounts of CPU and GPU processing and never had any issues with these games..
I assume MWO is not as heavy as the above mentioned games yet it is very common for the frame-rate to drop for some 5 minutes and at certain moments becomes very low that you cannot play the game anymore. I can hear my CPU fan run on full blast all the time when playing the game..

I have tried all the mentioned solutions, including the stuff mentioned above but nothing really changes things.. Just letting you know how things went for me..

A bit off topic but is there or will there be a 64-bit MWO?

Lol, considering this is built on CryEngine 3...the engine from Crysis 2. I believe it can have higher hardware requirements than Crysis 2 the game. :D Just sayin

After trying all of the solutions here (and then some), I'm still having the same problem :\

Any more suggestions you guys can come up with?

One thing I have noticed, however, is that when I do get the 'FPS bug,' let's call it, I can run the PGI Fix Tool and that seems to stop the problem for a couple of games before it comes back (but not always). So if that information helps come to a possible solution, please let me know.

now i get 30 fps in mech lab and 15-19 in game.

Okay, I rechecked my laptop.. Completely opened the device and cleaned it up.. It seems like there was some significant dust build up... The game runs perfectly well now without any fps drops.. I also, suggest people get a cool pack or a cooling deck for their laptops as an extra..

Just wanted to update everybody as to clear things up.

Thank You all for the support..
