MWO's community will always be unhappy with balance. You have a lot of different views, on a number of different elements. In the end weapon balance isn't really an argument between balancing between missiles, lasers, and ballistics. That is a layer of the argument, but the problem with the layers is they bleed over. Basically take this picture, and imagine where you think the X should be to indicate MWO's balance today. Posted Image

For everyone that would do this, although we are all playing the same game, the X's would be in wildly different places. Where's the true current "X"? That is a matter of opinion. For example you could like missile damage in your LRM boat, but think there is too much SRM spam, so you still aren't happy.

Any moving of the balance from one preference to another takes away from something else, takes away from some other weapon system's proficiency. Honestly this picture is even an over-simplification. Cooling, run-and-gun versus camping, arcade versus simulator, purists versus everyone else, auto-aimers versus manual-aimers, I could go on and on. Point is someone will always be unhappy. When I log into these forums a year from now, it will be the same gripes over the same issues. As a community, you'll be forever unhappy with balance. Is this why the MW franchise has always been "niche"?
