Was playing HPG Manifold this weekend. Most of our team including me were at our base dealing with a last ditch base rush. The Reds were down to one mech (5 lrm Kintaro) left at their base. 3 of our team went to deal with the lone Kintaro while almost everyone else stayed at our base.... I think most of us thought why bother. I was in my KGC-000 with dual AC-20 and lasers. I went ahead and started the long trek across the map at 50 kph figuring I would try to surprise him from behind on the small chance he was still alive. He ended up killing 2 out of the 3 that went after him and had the third pinned down. He never saw me coming from behind. Killed him with an AC-20 shot as I was shutting down from overheating. Anyone else have similar stories? Please share.

Heh, a friend of mine, who left the game some time back, shared the following which he encountered in Beta:

So he was up on the Starport in River City showering the enemy with his LRM love in his beloved Hunchback, when an enemy Jenner came to annoy him. In desperation, he jumped down the tunnel to escape the Jenner.

And a killfeed came up. He landed on a Dragon. Splat.

The enemy BoomJager coming up behind the (flattened) Dragon was understandably distraught and wanted revenge, and as my friend watched the gun barrels of those fearsome AC40s came up, he knew he would never get out of the way in time.

The guns roared. A killfeed scrolled up. The enemy Jenner jumped in after my friend and had just became ablative armour.

My friend still died subsequently to the BoomJager, but through chat, he was able to direct a 6LLaser Stalker onto the now emerging Jager... and got treated to a wonderful sight of the Stalker ambushing the Jager as it came out, killing it and winning the game.

I misread what you wrote, and thought you said YOU killed 2 of the 3 of your allies.. Don't know how I managed that haha
Anyways, nice story! I always enjoy these sorts of stories.

Good stories, though this thread should probably be in Barracks.

I've had a number of interesting kills, but my most memorable was a long while back on Tourmaline. I was in a Highlander, equipped with jump jets (back when they actually worked). Early game, my lance of was heading to the rendezvous point and we were in a tight congo line, I near the center. Looking around I caught a blip on my radar and suspected an enemy light was trying to sneak up on us. I gave it a minute, then suddenly turned around and lit my jets. Sure enough, there was a Spider stalking us. As I rose above my lancemates I unleashed a perfectly aimed alpha and toasted him. My lancemates, a bit confused, all turned around and LOL'ed in chat upon seeing the dead Spider.

Nothing makes the day better like one shotting a light mech with an assault. I've managed it a couple times with an AC-20 and boy is it satisfying.

So, there I was standing on the outer ring walkway inside the volcano in Terra Therma. Piloting LightShow (400XL laser-boat Battlemaster). Enemy team was breaking apart and fleeing, and rather than push through my friendlies to pursue I decided to walk off the platform, land on the lava river, and give chase from there. The plan got as far as "land on the lava river". I hit the ground and there was an enemy Jagermech boating light ACs barely 2 armlengths away to my right. We mutually had an "oh s***"" moment and dropped crosshairs on each other and just opened up. Right as I shut down from overheating I heard the sizzle-pop of a mech gettting cored, and figured I was done... But a second later and I was still standing shut down, and I look up to the left and saw the kill notification. I started that little brawl mostly fresh, and when my mech restarted its CT structure was deep, deep red. The exchange in open chat that followed was priceless.

Me: ... ouch.
Jager: likewise
Me: wasnt expecting u there
Jager: i was expecting something smaller
Me: thats what she said

I have one.

I was at Canyon Network in my dual AC/20 Jagger with 4 medium lasers. I had seismic sensor. I came to a stop and noticed someone on the other side of the canyon wall was moving by me. I went over the top and came down right behind him.

The hunchback got the 2 AC's in the back and 4 mediums as a follow up. Boom. Gone. Disconnect.

I don't think he was happy.

(That was back when mechs could move around terrain without getting stuck on small rocks and before ghost heat)

A while back, I was in an assault match in a laser+SRM Centurion and our base was nearly captured with just a sliver to go. I was the only survivor at our base, my teammates were on the other end of the map, and a fresh enemy Commando was buzzing around our base. I traded shots with the Commando while my teammates slowly plodded across Tourmaline.

The Commando and I were both pretty beat up when my screen went black, a common glitch at the time which required a screen minimize/maximize to fix. When I got back into the game, I had time to take one last quick shot before the Commando got me. All he had to do from there was to step on the base and we'd lose the match. Unfortunately for him, as my mech blew up, my SRMs were still in flight and I scored a kill from the grave, winning the match.

Some of my teammates had a very similar win just a few weeks ago. We had a tournament match and one of our games was down to 1v1 along with a surviving disconnect on our side. The two remaining players traded shots for a while. Our opponent eventually scored the kill shot, but not before our player loosed one last volley of SSRMs, posthumously killing his opponent and winning the match.

In the bog marshes with my FS/A - I was travelling along the lower area to avoid LOS. I paused before a corner to let my seismics pick up any movement: 1 red blip to my left on the higher area...popping up behind along the stairs: its a lone Jenner scouting for his team. I line up my cross hairs and deliver a full 36pt alpha on his rear CT.

By his good luck, he jinxed right at last sec and my lasers sprayed over his entire rear...still got a red CT. He was quick on reactions and turned and went max speed away. Quickly analysing the situation, I predicted his mates to be close. So I broke contact and went back to the lower area to hide and listen to my seismics...

A red blip turned up again, right where that jenner was... I closed in expecting another brave lone wolf enemy team member...

It was the same red cored Jenner, exactly the same spot and looking away...silly freakin plonker, he knew he was shot in the rear...I had feeling of regret as I lined up my shot but he learned a good lesson after this.

On HPG I suffered a crash to desktop on launch. Had issues getting back in but when I finally did I was just off the resource and an enemy locust was standing right in front of me getting his corpse kill. He got one full alpha to the face and dropped and I Assumed the position as before. Not a few seconds later a raven comes and the dummy does the exact same thing. He took the alpha and started to move off but I legged him and finished him off then capped and we won.

Of course I was accused of cheating in chat but I didn't care it was the easiest two kills ever and I didn't move 20 mtrs the whole time.

Killed him with an AC-20 shot as I was shutting down from overheating.
("Rather unspectacular ordinary kill, I really just wanted to brag about my two beloved babies. I even overheat from killing a worn down medium mech from behind. I really can just fit the two biggest items I find and feel sexy about it.")

Epic surprise kills fitting the thread title would be stuff like (personal experience):
- A brand new Jagermech comes up the ramp on Crimson Strait, first alpha to CT strikes him back down (must have been Headshot I guess)
- Accidentally glance with lasers over an enemy Raven passing by, Raven dies. Instant feeling of "SORRY! I didn't mean to...", totally funny :D
- Fire a single light laser over the full breadth of a halfway damaged enemy mech (~0 effective damage). Mech destroyed. No idea how.
- King Crab surprises me from the side, starts shooting AC bullets like crazy, I'm sure I'm gonna die. Return fire in pure panic. Lucky dual-LPL to the head, KC falls over.

Was running my WVR-6K with LPL's when it had the quirks, was on the River city map, there was a downed mech in the river spewing smoke and I was trading shots with a couple of mechs with the smoking mech between us, I had the targeting brackets on one of them and he stepped out from behind cover, I couldn't see him through the smoke but I took the shot anyway, cored his cockpit with two LPLs, Luck? Absolutely :D

Oh yeah, this one from another friend who's now gnawing ankles..

Beta again, Tourmaline. Team's battle line was pushing forward, and an enemy Atlas showed up briefly at the start. My friend in his PPC Awesome came tripping along a ridge line and fired a warning salvo at range.

Atlas fell over poleaxed.

4 PPCs to the cockpit. At range. Ow.

One could say the warning message to the Atlas was... off target. :D

If you have the chance to line up a shot like that on a Jenner, go for the side torso rear. Generally requires around 26 damage (or less), so if you get interrupted you're more likely to XL-core him anyway.

Tournaline. Scouting in my ECM Spider. See the enemy team grouped around what was presumably an ECM Raven. Toss an arty into them as I shift position.

Component Destroyed

Stratagos has killed X

Apparently I had headshotted the Raven with the arty, back before they reduced the damage.

And they never even saw the smoke.

I was leveling some of my underplayed mechs over the weekend, so I ended up with a lot of "I shouldn't be alive" moments.

Had one game in my Phoenix Locust. Ran into a StreakCrow in upper River City. I zapped him twice before he turned around and saw me. Naturally I booked it around a building. He tried to follow but I kept circling around and zapping him from just outside his field of view. After a little while he tried pulling range to negate my cover advantage...right into a friendly Battlemaster. Oops.

Forest Colony Conquest with my BrawlBringer (2xLBX5,2xSRM6,3xERML). I pushed out to Theta with the Assaults. A Raven pokes over the hill from water with his back to me. One alpha strike kidney punch, one dead raven. That same game I sandblasted another Streakcrow (lost an arm for it), a Gaussphract (lost a torso), a Gausswhale (lost another arm), a DubStarter (lost a leg), and a helped a teammate take down a DakkaJager before finally dying.

Once I was playing with a few friends.

We all went assault, 2 Dires and a King Crab on Forest Colony Skirmish.

As we went alone on our treck of our trio fatties, we went through the tunnel, the rest of the team going against the enemy the opposite side.

We came out of the tunnel, and one of us saw the entire team.

We told the team we were going to eat their rear torsos, and they listened.

We took their assaults first, the first 2 were LRM boat Stalker and Awesome.

The next was another Dire Wolf, 6 Ultra AC/5s. We took him down quickly.

As the rest of the enemy team attempted to take us out, the rest of our team showed up, chewing into their rear torsos now.

Within 2:00 minutes of us attacking, the enemy was down 8 mechs.

We ourselves, however, were afraid...

We barely had any armor left.

As the team hunted down the remaining mechs, a Locust managed to get away from them...

It came for us...

Luckily we all had Seismic... as we saw him coming...

AC/40, 12 Med laser, 40 LBX and a Artillery strike completely took all of his armor off...

he was running a STD.

Overall damage between 3 of us : about 2,500, 4 kills, and 16 assists.

Playing in CW while defending omega on the sulfur map. Both sides had units perma-dead and most survivors where damaged. Omega was taking heavy fire and we are trying to drop them. One of our guys drops an arty strike on the main cluster and kills 4 of them. Last 2 enemy mechs are quickly gunned down and Omega had to have no more than 1 or 2 percent left as the clock ran out.

Other side starts howling about hacks and BS.
