I've noticed a lot of players complaining about weapons doing erratic damage. While rumors have been tossed around such as 'weapons do more damage to hotter mechs', 'missiles do more damage to internals', 'ect'....

The real underlying issue is latency. Every match there's only 2 to 3 people under 50 ping with the rest in the 250s which is just enough difference to matter imo.

Being a LBP myself I constantly check the board to see who my real competition will be for the round. (aka the other low ping bastar*s) Latency is a two fold problem for MWO. First of all you have to deal with leading your target forcing players to learn how to aim with their arms, then there's the phantom misses everyone complains about, last but not least the one thing even pros are seeming to forget is BURST damage. Latency can make ordinary fire register in clumps this creating artificial burst damage.

While I can't fix everyone's latency for them, I can help them become more aware of it so in the future they will learn to play upon their strengths and weaknesses with more effectiveness.

Good piloting out there.

I think a big part of the problem is actually the damage display in the cockpit. It flashes for a good second or two before it updates with the damage, so you can take a pretty huge amount of damage before you actually realize OH HEY I HAVE NO ARMOR

and with the current meta

it only takes 2 enemies to hit you to strip torso armor in a single volley

or 1 volley if you are fighting a stalker or ac\40

That's a good point. I hadn't thought of pilots relying so heavily on the warning system because I never "stood in the fire". (damn you WoW and DeadlyBossMods for brainwashing these kids)

Yup, that's pretty much the problem. Heck, it would even help other mechs out a lot if they knew where there damage was going. If I alpha with 9ML I'm probably not going to hit it all on one component, and the sooner I know where I actually hit the faster I can assess my next move. This applies even more with mechs that have somewhat RNG damage sources (LBX/SRMs)
