I think MechWarrior invented the Alpha-Strike. That's where I heard the term first at any rate. It's iconic and it usually shuts your mech down or puts you at the line. If it does shut your mech down you are defensless for 5-7 seconds. That's the drawback. Anyway, MechWarrior and Alpha-Strike go together like PBJ. It's not likely to change.

The balanced mech has the most advantage vs the boat, but not when it comes to noobs. ;) Its better to give a noob a simple weapon system the less weapons he has to worry about the better he will fight. Also a noob has trouble vs boats a noob doesn't know better about keeping away from a splat or streak cat.

I think alot this complaint is going to change with time as players get better. I think when community warfare and more post/pre combat communication comes your going to see specialized teams of boaters working together and then gradually a rise of completely balanced teams.

If your a master of a balanced mech then you know how to take advantage of specialized mechs.

If your a balanced pilot and still getting killed by boats you need to swallow the fact that you are a noob.

Masters don't exist yet, everyone is a noob. When they do exist your going to see a mf that can shoot his LRMs at one one mech have his arms shooting another and his torso shooting a third ALL AT ONCE without effort, and thats a guy at lowest levels of being a master. This is a skill that can be learned if you actually put effort to learn it. :D
