This is of course assuming you know how to build a good LRM boat. I see lots of people using mechs that have to launch LRM 40 in 5+ volleys, super ineffective.

Edit:Artemis is absolutely required. Without it, it's hard to even break 500 damage in a round.

cant like this comment enough......
imo artemis isn't necessary if your spotter is made for spotting, tag+narc>tag+art

and to those that feel the a1 cat is a useless lrm "boat" because it cant mount tag which is absolutely necessary, what about narc???? aside from being slow its a very useful tool, just use jjs to pop up quickly over a hill then get a narc beacon on someone then after landing back down behind cover lock on and fire your missiles, its pretty nice after the boost

you arent the first to design that mech :D iv done that 2

Hence the quotes on "invented", I was fairly certain I`m not the only insame one here :D

For the record though, I designed it AFTER LRMS were hypernerfed as a pure troll mech and have actually not run it that way in quite some time :(

oh zeprome this is your thread, when do you normally play because plenty of people we know would gladly help as a spotter, i used to run my commando as part spotter but i gutted it, but i know others use uav, i use tag AND narc when available, we got your back :(

of course like others said, its hard to be purely lrm boat if your in a game with pugs, they are more likely to hold a lock just long enough for people to know something is there and not actually give you enough time to hit the target

Yea, I'm cheap :(

I just don't see the point in losing out on some survivability(I like to take shots in that empty arm as much as possible) for just a couple km/h. If I could get 20 km/h out of it, that's one thing.

Just in my personal experience, if I go down, it's not because I couldn't get away or was too slow or anything, it's because the rest of the team is dead and it is now 6-8v1-2. Usually because they didn't hold a target and/or my spotter got killed. Not much is going to save you at that point. I've only ever accomplished killing everyone in an AS7-RS. My personal best in this one is 7 kills, though I get much higher damage scores for obvious reasons. Not saying I haven't been the last man standing and killed the last 2-3 mech in this thing before. Lol. But the few extra points of armor seem to help when they start taking potshots at me, especially with so much ammo ready to go boom soon as that armor is gone.
Just my opinion.

I couldn`t resist trying how it is with the current patch after this thread... Forest Colony Assault, Lose, last man standing, 1 ear gone, no ammo left. ... spent most of the match in the river /ditch area.

To me that says: it still works, and is still very deadly, but it`s still not OP. But those huge clouds are still so unbelievably rofl, i started gigling like a schoolgirl after the second kill every time I pushed the button :D

lol its not that it does a lot of damage, only can do 400ish total due to ammo problems, but it does it so fast! lol

Speaking as not an LRM pilot, but a brawler, keep an eye on where your teamates are, and make sure you can find someone quickly.
I love seeing missile heavy builds on their own, because I know if I get within that wonderful 180 meters, you can't do much about me. Keep those medium lasers, because if I spot you on your own and am able to close in, they are the only things you have that can hurt me. I remember one time, I saw a mech with all lrms, no lasers, no srms, he wouldn't be able to do a thing to me if I got within 180 meters, but he had 2 buddies with him, and I couldn't close, was very frustrating to me.
This has been stated many times, and I'll say it again, keep your situational awareness high. Know where your line is, be behind it, if I can't get to you without wading through your frontline brawlers, if I decided to push you I wouldn't make it, and I know this, so that's one match for you to rain hell on me all you want.
If you're PuGging on your own, use the chat, tell them to hold locks, if I know I have an LRM boat on my side, I'm much more likely to hold a lock on a single mech for as long as I can.
Lastly, try to find people to drop with, preferably a scout, but the more people you can talk to easily, the less likely it is that someone like me will be able to surprise you.

yeah people sure do love running over hills mindlessly when they see lrms coming from the other side, then they realize its not an lrm boat with a few brawling weapons, its a brawler with a few lrms :(
happens to me all the time, launching lrms makes for good bait

I don't have a fixed time. Whenever I can play I will be on TS.

Maybe we could communicate before hand like on the forums?

Thanks for the offer though. I know LRM boats are really powerful but because I don't have dedicated LRM experience (I'm using a medium pilot with high emphasis on mobility (for flanking) I'm just trying to level up the skills to further get up the tree for the catapults.

Koniving inspired me to get a catapult. Al thanks to him during my first couple weeks of playing. :(

Agreed 100%, and that`s why my normal Cat builds all have streaks and /or MLs :(

This is the core beauty of MWO gameplay. No matter what you do, which mech you pilot, or what weapons you`re using, there is a potentially an evil surprise for you around every corner, just as likely it might be a quick snack. It could even be both, or neither.

To paraphrase anoter forum member: Rock, paper, scissors, Goat`s Skull :D

lol things like this is what inspired me to want to use lrms, as well as shows why you NEED a good spotter (as well as a good camera man), just look at the devastation!
(skip to about 1:00 to see the action start)

also notice how they stay 180m apart from each other meaning you can only keep one from shooting, the rest can still demolish you

Just managed another 7 assist game in my A1 doing most epic stupid thing ever! Actually not ever... I've done this one many times before. I just managed to do it perfectly this time.

The Navy calls it Flaming Datum. Discovering there is a submarine in the area when one of your ships explode. I call it looking for the enemy and finding them. Forest Colony map... the ditch... they were all tucked away in there. No one could find them... jumped over the ridge and voila! Broke missile button finger and sprained lock button finger cycling targets as fast as I could while jump spinning and moving like a bouncy ball caught in a box.

7 Assists...
I didn't get the 8th assist because one of his own guys cored him while firing at the spot directly below me :( I :D JJs! My only regret is that there is no counter for Friendly Fire damage. It had to have been amazing.

gj! kind of sounds like you might have made it hard for your teams lrm boats to get a lock though
