Looking for some advice. General details - all energy build, 1/2 of its firepower at CLOSE range.

I can either: (1) increase speed to 95.4 (pretweak) and gain additonal HS (39% cooling - 3.99 sustained DPS) OR (2) drop speed to 91.8 (pretweak), lose the HS (37% cooling - 3.79 sustained DPS) and gain AMS.

I am stuck as to which way to go. As both need XL engines which I will have to purchase (unfortunately can't swap in as I don't have either of the neccessary ones), it would be a costly - try both and see what u like scenario.

Don't want to post smurfy's specifics (pretty committed to weapon load-out and don't want to entertain the - why don't u do this?, etc).

Anyways, looking for some advice here.
Thank you! ~S~

What mech (or at least what class)?

With those speeds, I'm guessing medium. I normally left the AMS off my mediums, and just used them for the slower heavies. I figured the speed (especially the speeds your posting) meant I could run to cover fast enough if I needed to. Still, about 4~5 kph ain't much of a hit.

For that, I would go AMS if you thought you needed it for your play style.

Personally I go AMS. You won't always be using it, but having a couple mechs with AMS in close proximity can change the battle when you're going against the occasional team of LRM turtles, and 3.6 kph and one heat sink really don't make a big difference in the way that I play. If it was a difference of two or three heat sinks then I might have a different opinion.
Also when you're in close that AMS can help keep you alive against the Streak Ravens.

Well, its a Black Jack (1x). I have AMS on my BJ-1 (actually my second slowest mech at 79 (with tweak)) and have found it very helpful...and with a couple of recent missile bloating matches, I am certainly leaning that way...thanks for the ideas so far. :(

AMS is worthless if you have the speed to get into cover. You will be shooting down missiles thar would have missed you anyway.

Indeed. Though sometimes I "escort" my slower teammates to mitigate some of the damage. : /

As long as you are moving, LRM's can't hit mechs going 90+ kph due to the downward plunge at the end of the flight path.

And obviously you can get to cover.

I'd skip the AMS in this case.

AMS is really better for heavies/assaults at this point.
