Actually, to be honest, it's the very first Assault Mech I've bought at all, and after one test run in Assault mode, my first reaction...

Slooooowww. I have a huge bit to learn before I can become truly effective, but for starters, I'm trying to figure out some sort of even remotely decent build.

Was messing around on an AS7-D at Smurfy, and came up with this, but would really appreciate some feedback from those who fancy themselves Atlas experts.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...919ded82869ecf7

Thanks folks.

P.S. Note that the BAP was sort of added as a last minute "what will I do with this final ton and a half of space" type thing, and I'm not married to it in the event that there are better suggestions for the tonnage. Was thinking it could maybe soak up the occasional torso crit that might otherwise go to the AC/20 if I'm lucky. <_<

Also, it does seem it might run a bit on the hot side, but I'm hoping that the long range/short range groupings might offset that a bit. Could drop the BAP for another DHS, but no idea where that last 1/2 ton goes then. CASE maybe? But where?

if you're wanting to try an atlas you're fairly limited to a D-DC for the ecm or an RS for more energy hardpoints, but I honestly don't know many people who use the D over the D-DC or the RS. but if you're deadset on the D I would dump the BAP and get those streaks upgraded to srm 4s and possibly replace the ac20 with a gauss since its so short range compared to your ER PPCs, gauss would compliment them more. other than that it seems very well rounded and I'm by no means an expert but I tend to build my mechs with certain styles in mind and don't shoot for "balanced" builds much since boating is so strong right now

SRM-4 + Artemis? I don't run alot of SRM mechs, so I'm real new to the pros/cons.

I'm also debating swapping out the PPCs for LLs and see what that gets me.

Even downgrading the ERs to standard PPCs might help, I was just thinking about the minimum range. Then again, maybe having minimum ranges is a good thing to help balance my heat curve.

I notice the build has a nice high firepower rating, but low sustained DPS. Trying to balance that out a bit as well.

Also, I bought a D, a D-DC and an RS so I could get to leveling the chassis. Probably will settle on the D-DC as my "main" one perhaps, but starting with the classic D for kicks.

i use a juiced up version of the stock loadout.

but because of the two medium lasers in the center torso you can really do some neat stuff, like thunder and lightning, and still retain a good amount of close range bite. word to the wise, don't fire the ppc's together in a brawl.

thunder and lightning should be a good preview for what to expect from the battlemaster, except it will probably be more like 6 ml a uac or gauss and an er ppc.

Here's one with a few slight tweaks, though I was having trouble with the SRM change fitting. Still have the BAP, again for a space filler/crit soaker/maybe it might help slightly with targeting now that I'm a little more long range oriented?

Improved the sustained DPS and heat curves without taking too much from the firepower.

Couldn't get that 2nd link unfortunately. Eager to see what the build looks like. 8)

Also, side-note, I only have a 4 button mouse (standard left/right + mousewheel, and then a thumb button), so weapon groupings can be tricky sometimes I was finding, even with the stock AS7-D. My builds are sometimes oriented towards simpler groupings.

This runs about as hot as yours but has a higher dps rating. That being said, Normally when I fight with this depending on the range I'll be using 2 of the 3 weapon systems primarily. Medium to short range is this builds ideal range, which can be tricky considering its speed.

Very nice! I actually was debating dropping the AC for a dual UAC/5 initially. I may reconsider again after seeing your build.

Kind of what I'm going for too I think, some capability at a couple of ranges, rather than banking it all at long or short. Looks like a good build, do you find the heat curve is tough on "hot" maps? (I'm looking at you Caustic Valley and Tourmaline Desert! <_< ).

well you can technically use ac/5's as uac's are unreliable outside of single shot, and if you do you can use the extra space to fit another heatsink and who knows what else. the main advantage the uac have is that they have potential high output, but they can also both jam at the same time.

I macro my uac's except when I have a damn I hope this guy will die quick and the gods are on my side moment.

Hot maps you have to be very careful. Sometimes I'll almost ignore the LLs till Im out of ammo except for alpha kills.

Just a note: I havent used this build since the SRM nerf. It might be better to run sans them for the moment and go a different route. I would have to see how it plays out again on the atlas, but the srms do seem viable on my QDs.
