To be fair, the -6S isn't that great a machine. The -6T with the PPC is a pretty big improvement but it wasn't available during most of the Succession Wars, being introduced around the same time as the (SUPER AMAZING) Banshee-S.

And hey, if they want to eventually miss out on the -9S Zeus, it's their loss. That thing is an amazing fire support machine, and a just all-around solid mech.

The only things I have against it as a final assault 'mech are
  • It's so exclusive to the Lyrans
  • Few variants
  • No jump jets
I've always liked the Zeus, though I have to say the -6S doesn't hold up too well against most 'mechs its size or larger. It definitely falls into an interesting niche of having great heat dissipation abilities, but barely enough weapons to spend it on. Of course, with easy mechlab access... knock off a couple heat sinks, add a couple tons of armor, it gets a little better. Of course, it only has two 3025 variants and one 3050 variant, which has the same hardpoints as one of the 3025 variants, so it wouldn't get a lot of mileage that way... though at least it does have a variety of beam, ballistic, and missile hardpoints, so customization could be pretty good. Still, I'm hoping to see at least one jump-capable assault make it in-game, and no variant of the Zeus has jump jets.
