There's a term for putting forth ideas you don't even support to get some sort of unspoken benefit: arguing in bad faith. It's usually considered intellectually dishonest. This is not a fancy way of saying "clever."

I realize you're not serious, but saying this in this thread reads a whole lot like "this is a troll thread."

Because mouse manipulation is the only skill most core gamers know. They can't grasp the concept or any sort of skill that relies on intelligence; predicting sway, being conscious of where the weapons are on your own mech, and god forbid they have to actually learn to control their fire.

....

Herp derp herp derp look how much better I am than those plebs.

But really, you need to blame the tactics. If you insist on finding the part of the map where a 5 PPC Stalker can tear you to shreds while you stand there with an AC20 and some medium lasers or SRMs, it's not the metagame's fault.

This. When jump jetting gives you a more stable platform than walking, that's obviously a balance flaw. When you're being torn apart by a giant, slow-moving mech that shuts down almost every time it fires its exclusively direct-fire and medium to long range weapons, something has gone wrong, and it's probably not game balance.

Where in my post does it look like I'm arguing for or against? I wanted unbiased feedback, and that's what I got. I'm not making some sort of troll thread and arguing to death an idea that I don't support.

Do you have a better way to get the feedback I wanted? Should I have made a thread called something like, "Don't Remove Group Fire," made all my arguments, and watched as no one responded?

Boats are a natural consequence of an open Mechlab. High Alphas are a natural occurence of Pinpoint accuracy and the ability to tailor your Mechs as desired.
Return PPC heat to the proper level and introduce proper heat penalties (slower speed and the like) as some have suggested.
Leave Group Fire alone.

I don't know why this is even a thread. Every mechwarrior game has had weapon groups. I don't know why all the hate against boaters, it's been 2-3 weeks since I've been killed by a ppc boat stalker. If you're getting killed by them often, try a faster mech. Seriously. Most people in the game can't lead a target. Also, vary your speed when at long range, i.e. dance your hand around the numpad to vary your throttle %, so they can't lead you as easily.

Note: I did not say the above because I boat things, the closest I've got to a boat is my stalker with 4 LPL, but thats almost always chain fired.
