Been noticing some strange behavior with the SRM missiles when it comes to their heat generation.
For some reason, a quad-SRM6 volley that in training grounds generates 25% heat will wildly generate 30 to 40% heat even in artic-cold maps. Its almost as if at some point the SRM starts generating heat per missile fired rather than per launcher fired.
In the small ice-bound city map (always forget its name >< ) I was running around in a 4xSRM6 stalker with 2LL's and 4 med lasers and spotted an awesome, standing still, firing at someone else.
Tossed him the SRMs first and 22% heat generated (from 0). He didnt react to the hits so I fired a second volley of SRMs (not using lasers yet) and the heat jumps up to 60%.
Tested this in training grounds and indeed, every other salvo or so there is somehow an extra heat generation kicking in. Almost as if I had one or two extra srm launchers firing.
Anyone else getting this?

Testing grounds is a wholly separate animal. Mech efficiencies don't work, ambient temperatures aren't necessarily accurate, etc. etc. etc. Testing grounds are alright for getting a feel of a load out, but actual gameplay is the only way to get the truth of it.

SRM6
Theres you issue right there. SRM6's are VERY hot weapons, SRM4's however are much much more manageable, they also fire faster, and take 1 crit so you can cram more DHS in. Overall, SRM4 rocks SRM6 is for suckers.

I don't see how 4 instead of 3 heat each time fired makes the kind of big difference you're talking about. Actually the SRM6 generates less heat per missile fired compare to SRM4 (0.67 vs 0.75 heat per missile).

You sir, did not read the OP. He said his quad SRM6 were not producing the same heat when ambient temperature should be the same. That heat could be 5 or 50, it shouldn't change.
Other posters have it right, Training Grounds is messed up. The other thing is that some maps, I believe, have regional temp variations - particularly the caldera in Caustic is supposedly hotter than the surrounds. Never personally tested.

Thats why I mentioned I first noticed this on an actual game. I don't usually run SRMs but as I was trying them out I was shocked to see my heat just spike for no reason.
The SRM6 generates 4 heat. The same as a medium laser. Firing four medium lasers while running an XL310 with 15 DHS total runs the heat up to about 20%. Same mech firing four SRM6s is the same 20% but at random it spikes an extra 10% heat.

I've noticed this as well. There will be times when I am at 80% heat and more than capable of firing small weapons without risk of shutting down. Know your mech, know your heat.
And then surprised as all get out when the mech itself shuts down from heat when I absolutely KNOW I was no where close to shutting down.
I had no idea what as causing the issue, but every time that's happened SRM's have been fired in the salvo.
Good to know that has been the cause all along.
