Just had a few rounds in PUG matches where there was team damage in every one at the start. Is there any chance there can be 'butter fingers' protection for 30 seconds at the start of each round? Is this a good idea for PUG matches? I can't believe how annoyed I just got as a team mate was hit twice in the back with PPC fire. Alternatively there could be a notification of who shot you and perhaps a means to vote to punish with c-bill penalty? What does everyone think?

Any automatic solution would be great. I proposed an automatic timeout (blocking the next launch) a while back, but apparently it was too severe.

30sec is a big long, I think 15sec would cover it.
Can we have Betty say "Weapons Online" or something like that when they go live?

if you shoot a teammate in the first 30 seconds you should suffer a complete and catastrophic containment failure and all that should be left is a smoking leg.
friendly Fire is NOT caused by butter fingers but by Idiots who insist on firing off random rounds "cos it looks cooool" and "ooooh look i shoot laser beams"
come on people use some restraint if you want to test your weapons use the testing grounds.

As an alternate solution, the game itself should count damage to teammates within, say, the first 60 seconds as a penalty to one's personal match score, multiplied by a factor of five (e.g. if one immediately fires a quartet of Medium Lasers into a teammate for 20 units of damage, one's score is then -100) with an actual team-kill (within the first 60 seconds of a match) being counted as, say, ten times the amount of damage dealt (e.g. if one immediately fires a quartet of Medium Lasers into a teammate for 20 units of damage and manages a team-kill, one's score is then -200).
Thoughts?

Give a big red warning, something like "You just hit your team mate. Your earning for this match will be reduced by 50%." Subsequent hit (after 0.5 seconds) results in another warning "... Your earning for this match will be reduced to 0." Another 0.5 second and another hit results in complete self-destruction and being unable to participate in the current match. Spectate mode should be available. Death message can be "You were destroyed by your team's karma. Don't hit your team mates next time."
These warnings should be in effect if a friendly hit is within 15 seconds from the start.

I'd rather they just make the dropzones such that no mech is directly behind another, rather stagger the starting points based on which direction they face.

Too many times to count I have been shot in the back. I have seen founders do it too. I would not add in anything past its up to us to raise awareness and make sure everyone knows if you fire while off the pad for any reason you will be veiwed as pudknocker by everyone around you. I have a habit of making comments like "Testing Grounds is a good place for that" or refrence to how unproffesional it is. Past that if you shoot me in the back stand by for an alpha right back. There is no excuse for dmaaging a team mat like that and reprisals should be quick and clean. If players understood that it makes them look like a moron to go pop pop all the time they would fall in line,
Also I get the one " I need to check my heat" I use testing grounds, thats what it is for and your lasers in the sky just gave away our postition and movement . I should hear "check your fire!"A lot more than I do,.

I don't care for the problem - it isn't usually a serious issue I would think. Nothing wrong with the solution though as it doesn't affect anything outside that minor thing.

I understand the need to test for heat, since the testing grounds do not take into account any efficiencies you may have unlocked and the map you end up in is random anyway. So if i want to make a quick change to my loadout i might get Frozen City in testing grounds and then Tourmaline on my first match.
Of course, you don't need to test on heat by alpha shooting me in the back.
