Yes I said it, we are spoiled and I accept this for what it is.
Why you ask?
The simple answer is we have, as my father puts it, no skin in the game.
There is no penalty for going out and getting your mech blown to bits over and over again. Why should I care my mech will be waiting for me when this match is over, or even better I can leave and play one of my many other custom mechs.
My solution for this is simple. Keep the cadet bonus let us earn around 9 mil cbills and get our first mech, but after that make it hard to get that second, third, fourth or fifth mech and trick it out. Make it hard to find Mechs, parts, and weapons. Make new tech hideously expensive. Change the notion that stock mechs suck. They only suck because they haven't been min/maxed. Have you decided that you belong to a great house? Great you work for their military right? Lets see your paper work on those modifications you want for your mech. Your a Merc right? Well we don't have all the parts you need the military bought most of them so that shoulder actuator is going to be a bit wonky till we can find a new one. Let us earn xp with stock mechs, but only up to basic level call it simulator time that way you can keep the existing game modes. This gives us time in all mechs so we can become proficient in their use. Give us access to a variant of each mech, but make all of the others we don't own cost X amount of Cbills or MC. When our mech is completely destroyed in a match lock it out for as long as it takes to repair it. Wait you say that will never happen you are killing the micro transactions and they will never go for it. Nay I say I am not killing them sadly I have only opened up whole new areas for them to exploit. Can't find a 250 engine you say well for only 50 MC you can buy local black market contacts giving you a 10% greater chance to find said engine. Want your mech repaired faster for the low low price of 300 MC you can hire a basic tech to speed up your repair rate. Will this ever happen probably not but I grew up playing the TT version, and I would love for this game to have some real meat. Something I could really enjoy playing. I hope for the best from CW but I will not be soul crushed if it falls way short. I know that some of these things would be hard to do mabey all of them are but if something that is even close to this comes about they will get more of my money

Far too late to do anything like this. It would mandate a total mech and mechbay wipe.

I have 120 million cbills. I don't really care. But my friend will never start playing if he can't build a viable mech in a couple of games.

And all of ous having a lot of master mechs and a huge stock of all weapons will laugh about the poor guys having this restrictions :) The idea of "hardcore" mode was better in another thread. There you lose your mech if it is killed or you have to repair it. Like diablo2 hardcore mode.

Great idea, but to late in the day to implement :)

And similar suggestions have been made for over a year now.

My fav is:

If you belong to a House Faction you are limited to stock mechs but you don't pay for repair/reload
If you belong to a Merc Corp you have customization options but they're expensive and you pay for your R&R

This is assuming they ever bring back R&R and implement hardpoint size limitations.

This is a very easily fixable problem, the game needs a c-bill sink other than consumable modules.

I hope they implement one in CW. A dropship fee for going for planets sounds good to me, the more further from the capitol system, the pricier.

The reward of the said planet can be adjusted accordingly.

So keep your mechs and cbills. Oh and welcome to CW I hope you have enjoyed the simulator it is quite lovely. Now my new Mechwarrior here are your Cbills and please choose a Mech and faction to participate in CW with. Keep in mind that life is cheap but Mechs are not, and feel free to use the simulator as much as you would like.

Well, at the VERY LEAST repair and rearm costs need to come back. As it stands there is literally no reason to try to keep my mech alive. There is no penalty at all for getting it blown to bits every single match. Repair costs were meant to be one of the balance factors for Endo Steel, double heat sinks, and the XL engines. The more advanced tech was (and should be) hideously expensive to replace if you got it shot up.

The same goes for mech chasis in general. In the lore the main fighting was done mostly by medium mechs because the bigger ones were VERY expensive to fix up. You wouldn't bring your assault mechs to a fight unless you know you needed them, because committing them to the battle means committing to the repair bills.

I love the idea of building a team of people to help you out mechanic, BM contact etc. I would love to see if setup as a new type of system buy you could set it up like our module system to integrate it into the setup we have.

While PGI might implement some form of tonnage restriction, they will never tell people they can't use their Hero Mechs.

That's how it was back in the day (1 year ago).

If you ran an Assault with XL and someone blew off your arms and a leg before coring you could end the match with negative cbills earned.

If the goal is to encourage staying alive, then I'd rather see an XP or C-bill reward for survival than anything else.

The key with making a successful game is that most players prefer carrots to sticks. If you want them to do something, give them a positive incentive to do it. Don't make it prohibitive not to do it.

That said, I would not mind a "campaign mode" where you can make a separate pilot profile who is affiliated with a unit of some kind (House or Merc would have different economic game play) and your pilot would be persistent (including destruction by head shot causing perma-death). Mercs might have to pay for all repairs and mods, or only some if the unit covers part of it, while House pilots would not have to pay anything for upkeep but would get far less money from missions and would be limited to House-preferred inventory when making modifications.

This would work best if it were a custom game type of setup, where there might be leagues or forum groups or whatever who start a campaign (like the Marik Civil War people).

i think the idea of introducing repairs makes sense purely from a battletech universe perspective, however if you introduce repairs to the game then you need to most likely up the c-bill earnings per match (even for the losers). One way to do this that i think would be fun would be to modify salvage so we actually have a % chance to earn actual wreckage post-game. Example, 8v8 ...winners get salvage rights to all mechs damaged.

What you put into assisting with the win whether it be capping or damaging you get a % of the total winnings (100 / 8). This would give more incentive to players to act as a team and not run off on their own and be a hero (or most likely dead). There could be a very slim % for each player to actually win a burnt-out mech that they would have to repair at a % of the cost of buying a new one...but salvage would most likely be in the for of armour scraps (to reduce your repair bills), weapons (to replace blown out ones) etc etc
