Cant we just stick with battle armors? lol there's plenty of battle armor suits, like the Gnome, the Golem, the Longinus, the Purifier.... even the Elemental.

I have to ask, though...do we really need them yet? I'm not trying to say we don't, as I'm undecided, myself...just posing the question.

On one hand, it would make boaty configs with only things like PPC weaponry more vulnerable, since they wouldn't have any powerful anti-infantry weaponry, and would make hands/jump jets more useful, as well as lower arm actuators...not to mention flechette AC rounds, Machineguns, Flamers, Small Pulse Lasers, etc. For an example of this, play MWLL a bit, and watch how easily a single Elemental can terrorize the Catapult that mounts nothng but LRM's. The original Catapult has the lasers with which to defend itself, but the missile-only configuration can't do anything but run away, assuming its leg actuators haven't been damaged.

On the other hand, the game might be more entertaining without such annoyances. Mech-on-mech combat, no Fire Moths running around at plaid speed, ferrying Elementals all over the battlefield, no people flying around in VTrOLls, etc. This is why, in my mind, it will end up giving a similar feel to World of Tanks: a scenario that rarely unfolds where the main combat units only fight other units of the same type, without interference from infantry, or air/naval assets. A battle of the purest type: mech on mech (or tank on tank, as in WOT).

I hate the looks of the protomechs, they're so cartoony they look totally out of place even in the sometimes cartoonish BT universe.

The idea of a specialized ultralight mech? A fast, manuverable unit armed to kill infantry and battle armor is interesting.

Concerning the TT game, I think a lot of players would have given protos a chance if the artwork depicting the protomechs was not horrendous. For a game that is half based on the imagination of the players, the visual is key. If people want to see stupid unicorns, demons and goblins in their head they can go play Dungeons & Dragons.
