3PV
Viper69 : If we are going to be able to choose to play against people using 3PV or not to, how are you going to address the then fractured and smaller groups that then have to wait in queue for a match that meets their perimeters?
A: There will be two modes Normal and Hardcore (FPV) only. We anticipate most players will play the first mode leaving the hardcore mode for the those wanting a challenge. 3PV will be going onto test servers in the next 60 days and we’ll see how it goes from there.

As long as the only difference between the "Normal" and "Hardcore" modes is the 3PV vs 1PV then I have some trouble picturing most people choosing to play in "Normal" mode. 1PV isn't much of a challenge in my opinion ... it is just how the game should be played. On the other hand, if "Hardcore" includes other changes besides view modes to make the game more "challenging" then that is just wrong ... 1PV should be a choice on its own.

do you believe PGI? If you do, then you have a ton of disappointment coming your way.

Lol, of course I don't, I was just trying to make a point. I've already reached maximum disappointment saturation, now watching this game kill itself is just amusing.

You should look at my post history.

Ghost Badger: How does PGI plan to reconcile Community Warfare matches with 3PV and 1PV? How will they reconcile matches between teams with different preferences? Or do they plan to split the CW mechanic by viewpoint?
A: The plan is to have scheduled matches will be FPV only, since these will be performed between Merc. Units. Regular matches will follow the above rules (Normal/Hardcore).
So are we getting CW with First Person choice and 3rd Person? Way this sounds is Mercs will be forced to schedule fights instead of fighting with lone wolves etc for contested planets. the way you make it sound 3rd person is the only way CW will happen. Sorry its a pipe dream right now if think there will be tons of 12ers running around scheduling stuff. I consider myself a hardcore player and I want to play the same game the houses are playing and not against children that need arcade mode. Don't say 3rd person won't have its advantages just seeing the damage a mech is taking from the left or its right or a mech coming from it's side is a major advantage.

I'm gonna say wrong. specifically because they told people they had a vision for the game. What they planned, how they planned, and that they were gonna make the best damn mechwarrior game we have seen.

Quite frankly, they have broken several promises already, and there is no reason to even think remotely that they wont break even more.

nope I saw the Founders Package and what you're saying isn't/wasn't on the list of thing you actually payed for.

If the amount of people saying "Rawr 3PV is Bads NOT WANT" is as large as they think it is then there shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah go get a poll that shows support for 3rd person? Go make one, lets see how that goes..

That's just it, a large amount of the player base doesn't even use the forums so making a poll would only be polling the whiney forum users who have made their opinions known time and time again like children (for the most part anyways)

Why has no one mentioned this on the forums? What 'demographic' are your active forum members?

I certainly haven't had any feedback forms emailed to me.

I can't say for certain what demographics they are. They come with an NDA, and those with loose lips find their tongues cut. Mine was cut some time ago unfortunately, otherwise the weapons balancing would have gone very differently with the end of a rising thermal cap based on the number of heatsinks rather than a weapon threshold to stop boating. My method would be much better at the overall goal and much more true to the basis of the game. Alas, loose lips find their tongues cut and their words meaningless.

You know, I just thought of what to ask that might get an answer for the next one. Have you ever noticed the discoloration at one side of the frozen city cave? There happens to be avalanche sound effects within the game that are still part of the build to this date, as well as lava and various other things. At one point it's quite clear that the cave was meant to be able to be sealed before the decision went to remove that from the table. And if not sealed, then collapsed to the point of delaying an invading force or blocking the escape of prey scouting the passage; either way it is an innovative feature that will sorely be missed even though it has never been featured.

And so my question will be, when can we destroy the rock bridges across the crevices of Canyon Network? Every time I see an assault mech walk through it I want to shoot those fragile looking rock bridges and watch those chunks of rock collapse upon my prey; the dust, confusion and the shake disorienting my prey just enough for me to disappear from sight and strike him again from another location safe from his return fire. I picture ambushes. Coordinated attacks against larger prey. This is how the medium mech makes its move. It's what we need.

So then comes the question: When, and what kind of firepower will it take to bring them down?

----

My other question is if we will see the return of my second favorite Centurion, the CN9-AH; seconded only by my love for the Yen Lo Wang. The Centurions could use the possibility of the triple AC/2, and the inability to pivot that arm more than compensates for its comparative ability with the Hunchback 4G. Its hardpoints are unique enough that it would not win favor over the Yen Lo Wang or affect its sales; after all the Yen Lo Wang can go faster, zombie better (due to CT weapons where the AH does not have any), and aside from its arms its only weapons are one or two missile hardpoints which can never make up for the firepower, precision and speed lost by not having energy weapons to speak of.

That would be cool. Although, this requires destructible terrain to be implemented... at least that would be something more interesting that collisions.

I don't know the exact hardpoint loadout of it.. I'm told it's something like 1 ballistic and 2 or 3 missile hardpoints. I'm only going to guess that some people hated the idea that it was a ammo-only variant. This design would be obscene in the hands of the current players... and the only answer to the fools that thought it was a bad idea... please turn your attention to the Catapult-A1. That is the definition of where epicness started.

I have a video using it. So it seems to have twin missiles, triple ballistics. I had an LRM-5, Streak SRM-2, twin AC/5s, and a machine gun. At the moment I'd be more in favor of twin SRM-6s or twin LRM-10s + 3 machine guns, triple AC/2s + streaks, Gauss + twin MGs, AC/20 + lrms. A fair bit of possibilities.

That was once set aside for my intention to make something like the video below, but I never got around to it as I wanted a better outcome. And then like that, a patch came and it disappeared with the appearance of the first hero mech. The CN9-AH was removed due to, at the time, missiles being more in favor than lasers and there's also the streak meta at the time when ECM didn't exist. Why buy a Wang, when at the time lasers rarely if ever hit the target for most of those not in the US? Things are a bit different now, no matter how powerful missiles are, they'll never be the one goto anymore. Not when there's faster, precision weapons out there and lasers that actually work.

Btw, PGI, I miss combat like that above. Now everything is about how fast you are or how high your alpha is. Back when all we had was standard heatsinks, heat really mattered and those high alpha builds cost you more than they rewarded you. Sure they were dangerous but they'd be shut down for about 10 seconds or they'd instantly explode if they started back up. I wish we'd remove the rising heat cap, so STD heatsinks would be viable, and double heatsinks could be truly double heatsinks without "removing heat as a valid mechanic in the game." It's not double heatsinks that removed heat as a mechanic, it's the rising threshold. The worst move PGI's ever done is given them a rising heat threshold based on your number of heatsinks. In TT it was dissipation only. Balanced builds with good heat management would truly matter, too.

With 10 or 40 heatsinks, a stalker would only have a heat threshold of 30. A single volley of 6 ER PPCs could shut it down for at least 6 seconds minimum, far longer to be safe to shoot again. 6 ER PPCs is a guaranteed shutdown, with an 80% chance of falling over, and a good chance of the pilot losing consciousness. If the volley is fired 3 times within 30 seconds, the pilot usually DIED from heat exposure (usually within 2 volleys in the first 20 seconds) assuming the mech didn't explode and there was literally 10 seconds in between each firing.

Also, it's not how many PPCs they have, for the true threats are actually the 2 PPC+Gauss combo, 3 PPC + Gauss.

How is it factual? You're taking a few details and running away with them using complete opinions and interpretations based on nothing.

Your reply doesn't make up for your lack of comprehension.

Saying your right doesn't make you so.

Wait.... so you think NONE of those things happened? Wow, I've truly read it all now.

An AC20 + 2 ASRM4s/ASRM6s combo would be... really awesome.

Any of you closed beta people remember saying this would NEVER happen either?

Yeah, we do. But we kind of figured out that it was "their position at the time". Given the current state of the game and the list of upcoming "features", it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

In closed beta they were talking about Dropship mode which at the time was supposed to redeploy you in up to 4 separate mechs after delays. In actuality though it's not a literal respawn, as it's a different mech from a different slot in your mechbay. It's you playing again in a different mech in the same match as if you're a different player.

I am referring to the repair bays... I didn't mind the dropship mode idea, just the repair bays, which they gave a very stern response of NEVER! (Much like 3pv)

Today, I found myself thinking, "Gee, I'd like some more mechbays to try some new mechs, maybe I should put down some cash for some MC."

So I come to the website to plonk down my money but oh, hey! a new Ask the Devs thread! I'll check that out first!

So I read it, and then I put my credit card away.
