I've seen a Muromets with 3 Gauss before.

Really? I just tried to build this in smurfy and it would be atrocious. Extremely slow (or extremely paper thin with an XL engine) and no backup weapons and more than 50% of the armor stripped off and maybe a couple of tons of ammo at max.

Three Gauss weighs 45 tons. With max armor that brings it up to 65.6 tons before you even put an engine in the Mech.

Thanks everyone for your answers .. so, from what everyone some people said,
AC20 is OK, but the fact that Jagermechs can mount two, and/or those kind of builds can hit one spot is not OK.

I have another thread going somewhat similar to this. I think the problem comes about from the way PGI handled range on ballistics. The AC20 stats were for TT in which there was a hard limit to their range (i.e. 270m). Farther than that, they did 0 damage. Now with this whole damage scaling past long range, you can do more damage at up to 540m with an AC20 than you can with an AC10. I personally feel that the AC20 should have a damage profile more like energy weapons than ballistics (max range=2x long, not 3x).

No. The fact that the AC40 has been around since the K2 (aka quite awhile now...AC40 Jager is just the new "hotness"), hasn't been a game breaking issue and is not one now. Does it suck to get hit with 270m by this beast? Absolutely. Is it OP or somehow uncounterable? Far from it.

Personally I do like the thought of reducing it's damage profile in line with the recommendation above (2x max, vice 3x) but outside of that I feel the weapon is where it needs to be. And I run zero AC40 Mechs because they give up too much in durability and longevity for that big punch imo.

Ok seriously? I just reread this entire thread.....did you even look at the majority of the posts? Not even close to "everyone" said that AC40's are unfair or OP.

The reason why ac 40 is popular is only because i gets you kills rather easily and sure people like kills but i dont think that it is particularly overpowered weapon that win you the game easily, it simply has too much drawbacks.
I usually run dragon tuned for short range engagement, that means i am competing with ac40 jagers for short range dominance and i can say that in fair duel i win most of the time against ac40 jager, i find that my humble ac5 setup is more powerful in close range duel and even stronger in long range. Those jagerbomb are very dangerous when we are unaware of their presence but if prepared it is rather easy to beat them

If ac20 to be nerfed id rather that is done through either tonnage increase or projectile speed decrease

What about its recoil. Two Ac 20s basical on the top of its chassis making them top heavy. Then to fire them . . . shouldnt they fall over?

Personally, IMO, the AC40 Jager is preferable to the Boomcat. It is just less... stupid in concept :) . Much like aformentioned posters, the AC40 has several severe weaknesses. Small example, one game I was in my Cata3D. A Boomjager tore off one leg in a single alpha, surprised me indeed but his side torso was in the red. 1 4ml alpha to the side torso and he goes down without doing any more harm. Plus, going for the side torso is pretty much mandatory for me when fighting any Jager. Take off the side torso and they loose at least one weapon system, at most HALF of their entire build. Jagers are rough fighters and pack a gob load of fighting potential with their shape, I'd rather disable their fighting strength early on then go for the kill.

It's like fighting a Hunchback. Kill the shoulder and it suddenly became easier.

This along with the chassis' natural weaknesses and build styles are generally the balancing points towards the venerable AC20. Frankly it's gotten to the point where I feel like the AC20 is the most balanced weapon in the game... It just feels right despite peoples' tendency to try to mount two of them.

Has to be an alt. No one could argue ac20s are op with a straight face.

disagree, (might be an alt though)

AC20s are balanced compared to other high tier choices like gauss\PPCs\LRM15s+artemis

but INTERNALLY (in the ballistics tree) they are really one of two obvious choices, gauss, or AC/20

compared to the MG/2/5/U5/10 the AC/20 is a ridiculously good value for its weight

however I would argue for more buffs to the lower tier ACs before a nerf to AC/20s

dual 20 build are an issue in my book however, anything doing over 30 frontloaded\pinpoint damage is pretty OP right now

though the OP is crazy when he says PPC boats arent OP as well

PPC boats have to deal with a bit more heat, but have more range and accuracy(flightspeed) than AC/20s and can easily do 40-60 pinpoint damage

ac20 has a big dissadvantage, its range. if you let one sneek up on you, your ******, but imo its a fair enough build and they are usually the primary target, not to mention lightly armoured

the Gauss is really the weapon with no penalty

Gauss has only 3 hit points. And then it doesn't just die, it explodes.

So that's two penalties.

not sure what game you are playing that the ac20 has no limits. 13 tons plus high heat plus ammo weight and space plus ten critical spaces. ...the 1c40 jeagers and cats are distortions cause by the lazyness of the devs. and stupid.
