Just a quick observation.
Why is it possible to store ammo in legs? How does the ammo even get to the appropriate weapons in the torso/arms? Eg LRM ammo in a Catapult's legs - it is totally unrealistic for the hundreds of LRMs to be moved all the way up to its arms.
Should ammo loadout be limited to certain sections only?

Why should it be possible to have ammo from the right arm feed a weapon in the left arm? Ammo cross-fed across the entire mech?
Also, just because the ammo is in the leg location does not mean it is sitting in the foot. It could be just above the hip actuator, much higher and it would be in the torso.
As for realism, there is pretty much nothing realistic about mech based combat in and of itself.

Depends, science fiction often have some logic to it, even if it's unrealistic. Looking at some mechs like Catapult, there's nothing above the hip actuators.
Limiting where you can put ammo will discourage those assault mech pure LRM boats and encourage some variety in weapon loadout. Also a weakness, where if you destroy their arms, they have a risk of exploding.
Specific mechs like Commando-2D or Catapult-A1 still can pack sufficient ammo in the side torsos and arms.
Edit: What arguments are there for ammo to be allowed in the legs?
Edit 2: Created a poll in the Feature Suggestion forums.
