So I just patched, then logged in. I look a min or two to familiarized myself with the controls then started to charge to where I thought the battle was, I was wrong so I turned and headed in the right direction. Now I admit I am a noob, but being repeatably called a fail ******** noob, among other personal attacks, then I stated that I was sorry, I was new and I was told I should just go kill myself if I was this bad. If it was only one person I might give it another go, but it was 5-6 people from both teams. I especially loved my dead team mates telling the other team my map location, that was the cherry on top. If just one person would have had to guts to say lay off or if it was only 1-2 people then I'd give it another go, but more than 25% of the entire map gives me a good idea about what to expect if I try to lean to play.

Sad, I loved Battletech back in the day. :D

Sadly, there are people like them out there. Perhaps you just had bad luck, but I can assure you that there are also very helpful people out there. The biggest help would probably be if you got on one of the big TS3 servers and dropped with a team. There are also a lot of helpful threads in this and the battlemech guides forum section. Reading a few basics will save you a lot of criticism. Also, always stick to the team for the beginning and when you are dead, spectate other players. Also, check how the weapons work. I keep seeing new players who fire SRMs at 400m, don't lock LRMs or use AC/20s at 1000m.

The thing about telling the enemy where the teammate is happens quite frequently (and I think rightfully so) when that teammate is the last surviving player on that side, hides in a corner and has no chance on achieving anything, only dragging the match out and blocking the mechs of the other players.

This is no normal community behavior. You had bad luck and found some of the rare ****** in this com.

Maybe you should join one of the open Teamspeak servers and get a group. The people there are friendly, especially to noobs. Just say that you are new and you will get help. Most Units in this game are noobfriendly too, you can find them in the recruiting subforums.

Your "cherry on top" is against the CoC, by the way. Report them, and the CSRs will take proper actions.

Hey there bud, I'd like to say its not all like that, but I do see an increase when its late hours for myself... Im in the UK and by late I mean after 12am.
For some reason I think the ELO system is either bust or the people your playing with have been around for a while and are just angry!? Go figure...

I bought a new Stalker the other day and I've not had one since the ELO update/patch so my ELO rating is low on that mech, and some of the grief I was getting was pretty rediculous. I think half the problem is that there are new players buying Assault mechs and dropping into a game where the more experianced players who are struggling to gain a higher ELO do nothing but complain.

I'd personally say, carry on and try to play at a different time if you can... Granted it takes a while to get the gist of the game and what to do, but its easier now than in closed beta. Eventually if you do just crack on with it (sticks and stones and all that) I'm sure you'll leave the other side of the player base behind. Either that or get some friends, download C3 or another Voip system and play the numbers game :D Plus.. team mates = WIN! bonus.

Dont give up just yet, bad with the good as they say.

This kind of behavior is rare. Try again. You will find a lot of friendly players out there.

It might make a difference what time of day you're playing. I never heard from such children when I was starting, and I probably sucked much worse than you!

I have some teammates that happily bear with me. I just don't get into the super-competitive 8-man teams. Oh, darn...

I sucked a lot less by the time some back seat driver told me I sucked. This, from someone who had obviously died before me... He had a memorable name, and if we ever see him again (or the guy with the racial slurs, or the troll with the LRM Jenner...), my buddies said something to the effect that they're going to aim their death rays and go "pew, pew, pew" with extreme prejudice. Sounds like camaraderie to me!

You're welcome to join us at the 1st RDR. :D

Most matches are fine from what I've seen, but then you'll get that rare match where you wish you could punch somebody through the internet. Please don't judge the game or its community by the relatively small percentage of rotten people out there - most of us can't stand them, either, and I'm fine with "noobs." We were all there once, and there is still much for us to all learn in this game.

Yeah this is definitely a rare occurrence. For the most part the community is pretty tight knit, but will point out issues that you may be having. The worst trolling I have seen is players will intentionally shoot their teammates. 1st time they can say whoops after that you know it is trolling. I am not sure if it was the ELO bracket or what but you can always tell who is the child when they start :D Next time this happens write down their names and open a ticket when the match ends to report them since that is a breach of TOS (I am probably wrong on the acronym). Actually better yet we can take screenshots now so when they write stuff like that hit PRTSCR on your keyboard and in your \Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\ScreenShots dir will be the picture for proof. I hope it gets better for you because this is an incredible universe and the makings to be a great game. I would hate to see that some trolls ruined it for you. Be well and good hunting my friend.

This is griefing and should be reported with a screenshot attached (Print Scrn takes a screenshot and can be found in the MWO directory).

Sometimes you drop in with jerks... That's part of online gaming. Don't give up, majority of the community is not like that at all.

One of my favorites, that I see with surprising frequency, are people shooting LRMs below 180m, or past 1000m. Their damage doesn't drop off below the specified range: They actually self-destruct at 1000m! When I play with my friends, we're collectively at a level where people should know better. (If I play by myself, that stuff doesn't surprise me so much.)
Regardless, the Testing Grounds are a good place to sort out unfamiliar weapons and mechs. More people should use them.

I haven't noticed that, but I'll gladly rat out someone who appears to be AFK.
If the last player on my side is wandering around looking lost, it reminds me of my early days (a couple of months ago) and if the other side asks where he is, I'm prone to giving very unhelpful answers. :D

I`m truly sorry to hear that you were slighted by the elitist "born pro gamer" BS that runs rampant in parts of this community. I knew they were acting like entitled ****** on the forums, but I was not aware that the "world`s best mechwarriors" / Church of Sk1ll were such sub-par players that they would be directly interfacing with new players

Note I do not mean to say that new players are bad, but rather that their Matchmaker rating is artifically deflated, ironically specifically to prevent them from havng to jump into shark infested watrers from the get go. Appears to still be somewhat flawed....

The only thing I can say is please give it another chance, ideeally with the support of a few other players that can be found on numerous communits TS servers and do not require you to sign up or join anything. If you`re on a more european timescale (for ex if you work late or night shift), I will gladly be one of those players, and provide basic piloting and tactical tips. :D

Cheers

The thing you need to keep in mind is that the Matches are competitive play. They are not the Community. This what you see right now in the New Player forums is the Community. Do people go overboard during Matches... yeah. Sometimes here as well. But during the Matches we only have time for a few words and they can be quite harsh because of the lack of time.

I'm not familiar with the player reporting process. How does one go about it?

I've encountered so many well-behaved players, I've never had to do it, but I'm sure others with worse luck could benefit.

Hey dude, dont think that all the community is like that! Like any game, you will have your tools that like to troll newbies and flame players in game, sounds like you got really unlucky though..

I agree there seems to be certain times where the quality of players (skill wise and attitude wise) seems to change, its inevitable and i think you get the same in a lot of other games.

At the end of the day though, i wouldnt really give a flying duck about immature gamers like that. If it is really offensive though, screenshot it and send it to the dev's. I would classify this as bullying of new players and this is not the sort of stuff we want in our community. These kind of players are scum.

What you will find as well is the complete opposite - players WILL help you out and give you advice and guidance, dont you worry!!

Great news is most of the people in the same match that were heckling were also new or otherwise bad players themselves, thanks to the ELO system that shoves new players all together.

Though I advise you to take a moment to click on the little mech icon to the left of Launch but to the right of all the tabs, and then "Testing Grounds" for any future familiarizing.

Provided you have teamspeak 3 (free to download at http://www.teamspeak.com ) and enjoy the company of men (and the occasional woman) in their late 20s to early 50s, the Zhi-zhu Mercenary Corporation (Website) takes on guests from time to time. Relaxed atmosphere, international group, home of one of the most eager to help forum lurkers around (myself), some beer (in my case coffee), bad humor, no drama and the occasional youtube video or screenshots of awesomeness.

Lights, mediums, heavies, assaults; drive what you prefer and arm it how you like -- personally I enjoy slapping on flamers and machines; brown (damn filter) yourself laughing if you like but you'd be amazed what could be pulled out of my mechs using them!

We can help ease you into the game at the very least, give you a banner to fight with at the most.

Some vids.

Playful 4-man. (Very funny especially toward the end. I happen to be using the current trial 4X Cataphract.)

Coordinated 4-man. (2 Jagermechs for direct fire support, 1 stalker for indirect lrm fire support, and 1 Atlas to tank for us).

Fully organized 8-man (Zhizhu Merc Corp. versus Skye Rangers 10th Regiment)

You should Kill yourself! After all how dare you drop in and ruin everyone's game play! Don't you know this is there entire reason to exist and you just killed it for them?

Dude, this game and the Forums are like deep dark woods full of trolls. Ignore them the best you can, get on team speak with some people till you find a good fit and enjoy the game. Also ask the devs to put in the option to turn off chat in game, this will help a lot when dealing with the trolls.

This is a very common issue with all the random internet people playing games. They are ********, but happens in every competitive game.

The Current ELO system we have now doesn't help either.

If your new player or a low skill player, the group finder will put you in a team with High skill players to balance the over all team rating.

This Maximises the chance of beginner players encountering elitist attitude players instead of putting all similar skills together on both teams.

This also makes it frustrating for the skilled players as the team seems to be letting them down. All in all very bad matchmaking system atm.
