Just flat out disregard this type of person, they aren't worth feeling bad about even in the slightest bit. Instead, focus on what is happening that moment you find yourself getting ganked. Take some time to explore the maps in the Testing Grounds, familiarise yourself not only with the controls and their positions on the keyboard, but the mechs and maps themselves, as well. Take note of where your allies and enemies tend to head during matches and how they react to scenarios. Spectating after you're dead can also yield a good amount of 'good-to-know' stuffs.

You might also find it useful to adjust your controls in a way that is more comfortable for you to play with, I find the default setup to be dreadful. But most of all, just do your best and have fun. If you had fun, then you have won.

You met only a small portion of the player base.

I can assure you that after 4 - 5 months of playing, there are a lot more friendly players in this game than in games like WoT.

If you want to play with people, forum is a great place to start!

And don't worry, I'm sure everyone here would admit they suck as well. Learning the ropes, no one is perfect :D

Bad luck, I agree that is what happened to you. Most of my games no one even says anything, which is kinda saddening I like to talk. :D Keep with it and don't take anything too personal man. Some people can be jerks, that is the way multiplayer works, but you have to look beyond that. Many of the players that you see posting in the forums (more importantly THIS forum) are great players that are not afraid to help. Get on teamspeak and things get alot better, even if you don't get on TS then just dropping with other people instead of randoms make the game ALOT more enjoyable.

FULLY AGREE! It is a game and a game is played for enjoyment. Don't get stressed. Have fun.

As everyone's said, try join a public channel (NGNG, comstar) or join up with a unit. People are far more polite when they're on voice comms than when they can hide behind text.

Also, i've honestly never really had this problem, so i wouldn't take it to represent the community, in fact most of the time i've had the opposite with seeing people trying to help. Just take it as a big "i'm struggling to get out of low ELO and keep losing so i'm going to blame everyone but my self" - it reflects more upon them than you.

Actually better yet we can take screenshots now so when they write stuff like that hit PRTSCR on your keyboard and in your \Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\ScreenShots dir will be the picture for proof.

Just to be clear, you make a report by emailing support@mwomercs.com. Include the screenshots in the email. If you didn't get the screenshot, you'll need to include the player's name and what was said, including the offensive words. (You don't need the exact quote, but you at least need the key words.) Things to report: purposeful teamkills or teammate damage (include the attacker's name), outing a player's location if they are not disconnected, or offensive language.

Finally, don't post the offender's name here in the forums. That's against the name and shame part of the Code of Conduct.

As a side note, if you ever get Stuck at some point in a map, press F9 to display debug info in the top left corner. Then take a screenshot and send it in.

As for the actual size of the "poorly mannered" population, I think I run into one or two every 10 matches, and I PUG about 90 minutes/day. It definitely isn't everyone.

(outing a player's location if they are not disconnected: I used to also broadcast the location of AFK folks. However, I've seen some people fake being AFK so they can guard base, so I've stopped giving coords for AFK folks.)

You have to understand that new players aren't given a proper tutorial and then thrown right out there until they eventually fix that this year. Also sometimes it's hard to spot someone that's really new from someone that's griefing, esp. since they haven't been given much training time.

Anyway, stick with it - and join with a group like people are suggesting. You'll have way, way more fun working with other people. Once you get enough drops to buy a 'mech of your own, the game really opens up for you.

This kind of behaviour used to be extremely rare. But I've noticed it quite a bit more in the last few weeks by some reason, a lot of nerdragers on. Not to the same extent as other games, but still noticeably more.

Everything has been said before, and I agree with it all. Overall, I find this a very forgiving community. A couple of suggestions are 1) be patient. In game, find mechs that are the same speed as yours and stay with them and behind them. Stop when they do and fire on what they are firing on. The hardest thing to learn about this game is how to control the mech while having situational awareness. For right now, let your team mates worry about the situational awareness issues, you just worry about controlling your mech. Out of the game be patient with yourself. Use the training grounds to familiarize yourself with the maps, weapons, mechs, etc. 2) Choose a mech carefully. Don't take something that so fast that you can wind up completely isolated and facing several enemies alone, and don't take something so slow that if you go in the wrong direction you are effectively removed from the engagement. 3) There are a LOT of guides and hints to be found on the forums ==> use them to become a better mech driver. 4) Use the team chat right away. Let your team mates know that you are going to try to stay close to _________ (insert pilot name or mech type). They will very often begin chatting with you, even a little bit. Once you pick a mech to stay with, fire on what they fire on. 5) Whenever someone is helpful in game, send them a friend request. They may refuse, but if they accept, then you can either join their group, if they have one, or make your own and drop with them. Once you are dropping with friends, the game becomes much, much easier. The beautiful thing is, you don't need to be on TS to do this.

Well thank ELO and matchmaking. I don't feel sorry for the newbies being thrown to the wolves because that's how the matchmaking works and the developers can enjoy losing new players. It is pretty typical to face disconnects on your team and horrible players. Nobody needs ELO to make it even more messed up. Some player just mutter the obscenities to themselves, others just type it out. You can't quantify skill in this game with all the variants and weapons configurations and pilot experience. They should just stick all the new pilots together until they hit enough drops, xp, or cbills so they shouldn't be considered beginners and then move them to the general population queue where it is fair game.

If they focused on matchmaking based on tonnage, factions, and teams then they would have a better community.

iNanook,

Sorry you had to experience that. Unfortunatly with any community that grows fast out of a core group that loves a game, you end up with epeen waving 16 year olds that just figured out how to swear.

I know it sucks to be the recipient of such harshness, but try to shake it off, and start looking for a merc group to run with.

One other point of fact. I guarantee you those loud mouths were just as terrible when they started out. I was too. I've been around since the original pc version of Mechwarrior, but MWO still took some getting used to.

If nothing else, and if you'd like some pointers, add me to your friends list ( Zephyre ). I'll be happy to get you into our TS3 server and run some basics by you. Heck, currently I'm guiding 3 newbies. Never hurts to add another.

Best of luck.

Welcome to internet gaming, where people in general are at least 5 times the a-holes they are in real life. Anonymity does strange and terrible things to a great many otherwise normal human beings.

A big problem is the ELO system where people who consistently do well are matched together with complete newbies for god knows what reason, so those people that do well assume that it's not an actual newbie but somebody who got carried to high elo and is horrible at the game and stuff like that. It's not a particularly great system tbh.

Although, you should have seen the number of times where you sincerely offer a suggestion (not in an aggressive way either) like "try to unlock the arms, it's in the options, it will help you hit stuff more easily" and get thrown a barrage of insults from the newbie who is clearly convinced he knows better. ._.

So I just patched, then logged in. I look a min or two to familiarized myself with the controls then started to charge to where I thought the battle was, I was wrong so I turned and headed in the right direction. Now I admit I am a noob, but being repeatably called a fail ******** noob, among other personal attacks, then I stated that I was sorry, I was new and I was told I should just go kill myself if I was this bad. If it was only one person I might give it another go, but it was 5-6 people from both teams. I especially loved my dead team mates telling the other team my map location, that was the cherry on top. If just one person would have had to guts to say lay off or if it was only 1-2 people then I'd give it another go, but more than 25% of the entire map gives me a good idea about what to expect if I try to lean to play.

Sad, I loved Battletech back in the day. :)

I think this community is composed of older gamers with a love for classic BT and MW games, but we are not the majority.
The vulgar vitriol that is spewed by the minority i associates with the younger crowd that i saw gaming as my cousin aged from 12 to 24. it comes from the built in anonymity of the internet.

ya just need a thick skin and roll with it. they are disgracing themselves in my view. it can get better. This is also the biggest reason i dont try and find a TS server... you dont know what your going to get and i would rather not dig through the garbage

Next time remember the names and report them. Banned, gone, and any money the spend is also down the tube, which is just fine by me. This community is actually much better than most ive had experience with and i have never actually had that happen to me personally. But with that in mind, I hope those who said those things to you die in a fire tonight while sleeping in there beds. No i don't feel bad for saying it. I can be just as much as a-hole as anyone.

Great news is most of the people in the same match that were heckling were also new or otherwise bad players themselves, thanks to the ELO system that shoves new players all together.

Though I advise you to take a moment to click on the little mech icon to the left of Launch but to the right of all the tabs, and then "Testing Grounds" for any future familiarizing.

I speak of someone going out of their way to help bewildered new players, and sure enough Koniving shows up! :)
