So, I have a crazy idea for PPCs:
Right now they deal 10 dmg for 8 heat with a cooldown of 4 seconds.

Change them to deal 5 dmg for 4 heat at a cooldown of 2 seconds.

Boom, no more super concentrated single volley damage, but same heat efficiency and the same DPS.

So, lets have it, how stupid is this idea?

[edit]
Yes, TT PPCs are 10 dmg/shot, and TT LLs are 8dmg/shot. This obviously isn't TT.
Heat-system related nerfs also affect other energy weapons which are currently not problematic (which just means nerfing PPCs via heat-system nerfs will require then buffing non-PPC energy weapons)

I threw this in the other PPC topic so I think it applies here too. I'd like to see PPC's do damage as per the picture below:

Posted Image

5 damage frontloaded into the ball and 5 spread as the trail hits.

All other stats remain the same.

Edit: Just so people know and so I don't continue to hijack One Medic Army's thread I have started a new topic for this idea here: http://mwomercs.com/...391-ppc-damage/

That's by far the best suggestion but i don't see it being implemented ever. :D Would really make them special though, truly between laser and ballistics.

The problem with the OP post is while its nice, and I like it, it would change it into a different weapon.

Big alpha is big mans game. or just load 6AC2 and have twice as dps as with ppcs. Only bad weapon imho are missiles. SRMS are useless and LRMS are als osub par weapon.

Suggesting 6ac2 just shows you have no clue about the game and as such no right to comment on balance issues, ty.

I prefer a 4.25s cd on the PPC with a 1500 m/s projectile speed and accuracy penalties inside the minimum range (rather than or in addition to damage fall-off), 4.5s cd on ERPPC with 1750 m/s projectile speed, and an extra point of heat on each.

This would be accompanied by more systematic changes to weapon cycle times to make brawling weapons cycle faster and sniper or alpha weapons cycle slower, and preferably with a sliding heat scale that imposed graduated soft penalties to move speed, accuracy, turn/twist/arm reflex rates, and sensor range (slight modifiers that increase as you go hotter), along with stacking hard penalties as you go beyond 100% heat (internal damage to locations with engine critical slots when in Override mode past 100% that stacks with internal damage to locations with engine critical slots when past 125% no matter what, and a total engine kill when you pass 150%).

The thing I like so much about SRMs is that they have a decent cycle time, so I get all my damage frontloaded and then turn away. That's why they are so effective for brawling in a medium mech.

I wouldn't mind seeing this as a new weapon system. Something new, something to tork of the so called purists.

How about leave ERPPCS as they are but make PPCs about as slow/slower than AC20s, similar range, and make it a large-sized blob of a projectile that spreads the damage over ~2-3 sections of the mech?

The other ideas in the thread sound good as well...

Here's a radical idea.
PPC no min range.
ERPPC 0-90 min range

Oh god no. Would make PPCs an amazing brawling weapon, the one thing they suffer from atm.

They're too cool and the projectiles are too fast. Just reverting to the old stats would do a lot.

What are you talking about, they're already a good brawling weapon, 90m is pretty freaking close and they only lose 1 dmg per 9m below 90.
5 dmg at 45, which is practically facehugging.
