Yes we're all connected online but nothing beats a proper LAN party to really get the pulses racing and crank the competition up a notch!

I want to drag some Battletech virgins on to the battlefield but how much bandwidth am I going to need for a lance or company? Is this the only technical limitation?

Ideally I want to start with 4/8 from home but ultimately get a local LAN venue to host 2 full teams for some proper toe-to-toe combat.

LAN is generally 1000Gbps these days, most equipment is rated 10/100/1000 Gigabits per second. Unless you are on Wifi, bandwidth will never be an issue for a LAN party. You'll just need a good router and a good switch.

If you buy a good switch, you can actually build your own router with any old computer.

If you want to play online, you'll probably want to find a good high-speed internet connection, and make sure the upload speed is optimal.

...but MWO doesn't really support LAN gameplay, since you need to log into their server to play.

The LAN bit is easy enough, it's getting MWO to work with it I'm chasing.

I'm not sure if I read there had been a limitation of 1 connection to MWO per external IP address.
If not great but then how much bandwidth does a typical MWO session use?
Anyone familiar with Xbox gaming will know they are unhappy gaming online with PC's and laptops surfing. Yet I know from experience running 4 Xboxes with 8 players on a basic cable connection is fine (20Mb down 1.3Mb up).

Is MWO a bandwidth hog and which bandwidth does it eat more download or up load?
