So I was looking at some threads on balance and nerfing, etc.

I came across a thread talking about tonnage limits pre-match and I thought how about this.

-If you are in a group of 1-4, no duplicate weight class. This would mean you would be limited to 1 Light, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy, 1 Assault.

-If you are in an 8 man group, no more than 2 of any weight class. This would mean you would be forced to 2 Lights, 2 Mediums, 2 Heavies, 2 Assaults.

When the limit of each weight class is reached, you could make it so those trying to ready up, cannot ready up until they select a mech of a weight class not already at it's limit.

This would in effect, balance tonnage vs tonnage, and require some teamwork.

Now obviously PUGs could drop in whatever, but if you turn weight class matchmaking on once again, you will see balanced teams and more competitive balanced matches. Force your match making to limit the match to 2 per weight class on each side. When there are a lot more of class, A, B, C, D they would obviously fail to find match or wait much longer to find a game. This works in almost every other multiplayer game I can think of that has some sort of class matching, why can it not work here?

Problem is it forces people to play mechs they don't want to, including being forced into a trial mech (when you don't own one that fits the required tonnage left).

If something like this is going to be implemented, I like the idea of a per player tonnage limit. So you have, say, 200t to play with and you can fill it however you like. So you could take two Atlai or four Trebuchets. The advantage here is if one team loads up on Atlai, they'll have 16 Mechs to field, but if the opposing team loads up with a mixture, they'll likely have closer to 32 Mechs to field and no one is forced into chassis they don't want to play.

The above is not my idea and I take no credit for it. Read it in a different topic.
