First time install.

Sits at [Downloading patch - 1/1 1910.69/1910.69] screen for about 20 seconds, then goes to [Preparing patch - 1/1]. It sits there for ~30-45 seconds before simply closing.

I couldn't find an applicable fix in a forum search (opening up writing privileges, which I think I did correctly, didn't help; and my computer still has free space on the drive). I did, however, find out how to get an error report:

I have the exact same Problem. The repair-tool does get the game running again, but I have to use it after every single patch, which sucks!

I had a similar problem and my fix might be wildly inaccurate, but what have we got to lose? I used a custom install location, instead of the default. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it to my custom location, but created the new folder, "Piranha Games", as the target. The game updated just fine after that. Perhaps the "piranha games" folder, which is where the updates folder exists next to the "MechWarrior Online" folder, is hardcoded in the installer. That's my only theory, and as I saw from the log file "does not start with 'C:\Program Files (x86)\\MWOUpdate\patchFiles\'First time install" there is a double slash after the program files..I assume it could not find the piranha games folder.

I can also confirm this fixes the problem -- I tried to install the game on a friend's computer under just D:\Program Files (x86)\MechWarrior Online without the Piranha Games subdirectory and got the problem. Uninstalled, reinstalled in the default directory (but D instead of C) and repatched (fortunately, I have a fast internet connection)... and it worked fine at that point.
