While I can sympathize, this is an online game primarily. I don't know if allowing players to emulate a server locally would be a good idea in terms of security of the client.

So make it a separate component. It need not tie into the main game for anything other than to sync with the servers and get game data about the pilots current mech lineup. Communications could be strictly one way. Nothing done in this would be going back to the servers. Think of it as an add on training simulator.

this would almost be a must, Some type of testing grounds map or simulation mode that you could drop into a map, have a few mechs standing around for targets, maybe even let you pick a few mechs to be your targets an let you test out your builds. After all, when I buy a car I get to test drive it, why not let me test drive a mech an its loadout.

Yes definitely.
A team banzai boot camp style map (MW4 for those who remember) would be nice to have.

A simple "test mode" with a small map and some dummy targets would alleviate this issue. I think it will be even worse for the type of player who is new to Battletech and will not be represented on these forums. They really won't have a clue what the weapons feel like until they try them.

Here's hoping it is in at release or shortly thereafter.

Agree with the need to test builds before buying.

Firstly, incase you think everyone is playing beta, we ain't. Very small percentage of forum users here will get access.

On your idea. I don't like it, not testing weapons and full build. Nope. As a developer I think how the devs "might" think and usually do. That is, to force playtime by making players discover these things the long way, the way that requires you to have game currency.

Safe buying = currency stacking up, in most games, in my experience. That is not always a good thing, it would be a step closer to the threads we might see in here in a few months saying c-bills are useless.

WE HAVE TOO MANY C-BILLS....AAAARRRGGGHHHHH

Would prefer to hear that players would be inclined to be filling a role for their group to assist in social network sales due to role needing to be filled.

So rather than each player coughing up cash getting mechs and blasting them to pieces with no strategy, a social group recruiting within itself for roles to be filled that suit a personalities play style. As in Vegas2 with points awarded for play styles helping a player to actually noticed how they play and what will suit them before ever paying for a new mech class/weapon type/command privileges.

So hop in and learn how to pilot in a medium mech adn after game be informed as to your style and have recomendations displayed and perhaps be directed to clans looking for pilots to fill those roles.

Progression might be medium mech with long short and close range weapons. After the battle the player is awarded points Vegas2 style for the way they played. Player preferred staying at high speed and is recommended Locust and directed to groups who need a scout pilot for their regiment.
