Please. Mouse wheel has been elementary for so many years. Why it is not used? I hate cycling through the zoom, it is unefficient. Make it default that mwheelup zooms in and mwheeldown zooms out. It is logical and it is the way it's meant to be. And please add bindable zoom in and zoom out for those who use mwheel for other things or are used to zoom in and out with keyboard. And for those who use mouse wheel for other things to be able to bind it for other things.

Thank you..

An old (but still a good) idea.

Of course zoom should never be the ridiculous click thru all modes - no backing up thing that it is now.
Of course you should be able to bind mousewheel up and down in a modern game.

no reason this shouldn't be in the game. I'm no coder, but a simple keybind shouldn't be that hard to implement.

No it isn't, it's just your personal preference. Some of us got used to pushing the "Z" key back in MW2, y'know. :P

Allowing people to set up their keybinds the way they want is always a good thing. :D

Yeah. It's more of an inconvinience then an actual gamegbraking problem, but still annoying.

Not by default...not without any possibilitys to change that.

The problem is not mouse wheel - the problem is that you have "zooming" just in one direction. So you need the function zoom out.
...with that regards it would still be neat - when it becomes possible to bind the mouse wheel actions directly in the game UI but in the key mapping file.

Lets hope for UI.2

And if you ask, I used mouse wheel since August for firegroup 3 and 5

I found this:

It is still not possible to bind a mouse wheel via the game settings menu. There is a workaround though:

> start the client, hit the options and assign a new, unused key, in the “Alt Key Map”
column to your desired function (e.g.: “lbracket” and “rbracket” for “Weapon Group Highlight Left/Right”)
> close the game and navigate to your pilot folder within your MW:O directory (e.g.: “D:\Mechwarrior Online\USER\Profiles\YOURPILOTNAME”)
> open up the “actionmaps.xml” with notepad (right mouse button, “open with”)
> hit the search function (“LCTRL” + “F”) and search for the keys you have assigned to your desired functions beforehand
> when you have found the according entries (“lbracket” and “rbracket” in our example) replace them with the following commands:
> mwheel_up
> mwheel_down
> close the “actionmaps.xml” file, fire up the game and do the “I’m so happy dance” because now your mouse wheel should be working
> obviously you can assign any desired function to the mouse wheel, the above one was just a very common example

You're welcome.

definitely would like a zoom out function!

Also just a thought, how about only giving all mechs one zoom level by default, then require a module to get the second level of zoom (mainly since advanced zoom is still terrible).

I have posed this and other similar questions as an "Ask the Dev" question. If you voted Yes in the poll, please vote for my question here so we can get an answer from the devs.

Oh, and for those that don't know, here is an AutoHotkey script to bind zoom in to mouse wheel up and mouse wheel down to PIP zoom.
