I have been almost an exclusive medium and heavy mech pilot. My fav chassis is the Dragon (yeah, different, to each his own. I like the combo of heavy armor and speed).

I want to dive into an assault. Narrowed it to AS7-D-DC or a STK-3F. Atlas for all three weapon types and ECM, and shear durability. Stalker 3F for loadout flexibility and slightly better twist vs other stalkers.

Vote? Thanks!

If you play woth others, the DDC. If you drop solo, the 3F.

I'd say the DDC. The Stalkers all handle pretty sluggish because of the lack of fully articulate arms. Till you get used to the speed and such, then you can get a 3F later on.

Atlas if you want to jump in and brawl, and especially if you have a group you drop with.

3F if you solo drop and just wanna load up on PPC's and one-shot/two-shot people in PuGs.

They have quite different playstyles. The Stalker's energy hardpoints are placed very high making it much easier to peek over hills, get a shot in and get back to safety for example. In general I'd say Stalker works much better than an Atlas if you like to stay in the back of the pack, and Atlas is likely your top choice if you want to be leading the assault and brawling the crap out of everyone who stands in your way.

Atlas is the mech your teammates are most likely to gather around, and this is for me the reason I don't like piloting one in PUGs: I find it way more stressful. :(

In PUGs you can never be quite sure if any of your team members are following you when you rush in, which can lead to some stupid deaths.

Great feedback. Thanks. Still not sure. :-) Ha ha. I think I just dont like going slow.

I would go highlander, but i hate one entire side of the mech being only missles. Personal hangup.

Stalkers are easier to play than the Atlas, and a bit more versatile. I'd probably go with one of them first.

I would rephrase that to Stalkers having a very limited approach to how they play. A stalker kinda requires mastery to outpreform an atlas. Ignoring the broken hardpoint system and PPC laden alphastrike meta. The extra torso twist with dual basic is essential really. a D-DC does just fine with 1x basic, 2x being a huge improvement but not by as big a margin as on a stalker.

Neither. Get an Awesome, don't be one of those pansies in a cheese mech.

I have played both. I like Atlas more.

2 PPC, AC20(21), 3ASRM6(300), standard 320. Incredibly powerful on all ranges.

I'm an Atlas man through and through, so my opinion alone would be biased. Can you tell us a bit more about your Dragon? Loadup? Playstyle? Then I can give you a better recommendation.

I cannot import builds from mechromancer on my phone here....

My dragons are often biased to Ac5/UAC5, Gauss, lg pulse, and ppcs. Usually faster XL builds of 81-95 kph. Full armor.

Sooo.... opposite of assaults. LOL trying to branch out.

Personally they are both tough mechs and the ECM on the DC is especially annoying but the only mech I absolutely hate going head-to-head with is a Stalker with a standard engine. The way its torso is shaped makes it very, very hard to concentrate fire on its CT and they just don't seem to want to go down. Additionally they just have a ridiculous amount of offensive firepower. Combine those two factors and you got one dangerous mech.
