Legging. This act may be considered dishonorable for some, however many warriors using high alpha weapons tend to weaken their legs in order to avoid things like XL engines. You can teach them a lesson in both honor and humility by doing what some might call the less than honorable thing. They, themselves, have not much honor in carrying such builds anyway. Blast away their legs and they cannot run nor can they fight. When pit in close proximity with ER PPCs and a Gauss rifle as your foe's weapons and lasers as your own it is the only fair option to choose.

Your pockets will also increase dramatically as engines are worth much more when they are intact. Also remember that 'honor' is not actually an Inner Sphere trait. Deceit and treachery is.

Honor fighting. While rare, honor fights offer a flare that changes the pace of things. Rather than a slaughter, you're sitting back enjoying fine beer while the final hound of your enemies is pit against your fighters one at a time. I happen to have a video of such back when disconnects and unlucky draws were common.

Skip to 0:55 if you want to see what prompts it. Skip to 2:15 for the action. Or watch the whole thing.

Irony. Everyone who died here had to pay a huge repair bill, and pay cbills to get their ammunition reloaded. This was during a time when there were no 80% freebies, too!

Typically honor fights are one on one. Since the opposing side had two members, we agreed to have them fight 2 on 2.

Most recent honor fight I've had was given praise on a thread. I offered it as a member of the winning team against a mech who had our base captive. Check it out if you like. "Let's fight," I said. "I'll use only flamers and machine guns against whatever you have. If I win, you die. If you win, there's nothing to stop you from finishing the base and claiming victory because my team will never make it here in time." And so he took up my challenge.

No one is forced to stay in a match at any time. Press the "ESCAPE" key and you can quit the match to move on.

Oh, but the mech you want to play is locked up in the match? Too bad. Buy another one.

that's the tip of the iceberg, if you quit a match early now you get 0 cbills and 0 xp.

it's been like that for 2 months.
so no.
no ty.

as a quake and ut player i was rather amused that you're trying to lecture me on how to play this game and yet clearly lack the basic principals behind being a successful competitive quake and unreal tournament player

i had some corrections to make, took me around 30 minutes, but the forums ate the post. I'm not going to bother.

I myself was a UT player, actually played semi-pro league and ESL (think it was called something else back in 1999/2000, I forget)

I am not telling anyone how to play, just let me reiterate that, the title says ADVICE, not DO IT THIS WAY. it's just that having an FPS mindset and treating MWO as such will cause much frustration. This is an attempt to help not hinder our new players. Not everyone will agree with my post, but I do expect constructive input from our veterans and experienced players not trolling as is the common.

If you have something to add, do so, constructively and I will update the points list accordingly.

Oh, and I have never seen anyone want #12. If if they wanted to, I'd just blow them apart anyways. Those rites are for space nazis, err clanners and Kuritans. I am neither. I will not block mechs of allies and enemies in an already decided match.

12. HONOUR COMBAT/ROLE PLAY - In some instances the final Warrior on the losing team will call an Honour Fight. Respect that Warrior for wishing to add some role play to the game. I myself have done this many times, 1 v 1 trial combat at the end of a match can be extremely good fun and I have killed 2 or more 'Mechs this way. If honour combat has been requested STAY OUT OF IT, you'll get your chance if the Warrior is still alive. Do not become dezgra and dishonour yourself and your unit/Clan by getting in the way.

I remember before the Clans were in the game back in the 3025 era, they had mention of times when Inner Sphere pilots did 1-on-1 duels for various reasons.
Some were 2 untis meeting and 1 commander challenges the other to save on the R-n-R bill and/or the units are wore out from a long period of fighting.
Some were just duels like, "You owe me money," or, "You slept with my woman," even including, "You granpappy ruined mine, time for some payback!"

maybe for halo cod and bf3 kiddies who are used to RESPAWN RUN UP SHOOT THIS GUY CONGRATULATIONS YOU WIN! monotony. Those games don't teach you to think, instead they reward and condition mindless lemming behavior as successful with "achievements" and other things that have no place in a game environment. Ever think modern gaming isn't about gaming, but addicting individuals to the success reward dopamine mechanism in our brains? so they continue to seek products to self gratify their inflated sense of success and importance? the "gaming industry" on the whole is far more destructive than cigarettes and alcohol, because this kind of mental conditioning deprograms key societal behaviors essential for our perpetuation as a species, as is evident in society today. the gaming "industry" is not the only perpetrator, "social media" also plays a large part in this destruction. but what do i care anyway, nothing I could do to stop it even if i wanted to.

tin foil off, back on point;

however for quake and unreal tournament players, awareness, as well as a well planned timetable in conjunction with positional strategy based on your past experiences and your current opponent are the keys to establishing map control and maintaining a lead.

for games like this, it is very similar, except the mentality of the typical player in a random game team setting is an isolar one due to the main line of communication competing with the control scheme for dominance. In other words, VS a bunch of random strangers, the key is to take advantage of the activities of your own teammates, as well as opposing teammates, is to acknowledge the skirmish phenomena and use that to isolate and destroy your opponents. Ultimately games with 4 mans will come down to which team can destroy the random players on the opposing team first while maintaining their own random players to achieve a damage/hitpoint advantage. Against actual teams putting this theory into practice is difficult, but it more or less remains the same. against a good team, the objective is to remain flexable, identify the weakest point, isolate and destroy it to achieve damage/hitpoint superiority, and press that advantage onto the next observable weak point. In games with damage and hitpoints, ultimately it comes down to which team can reach the opposing teams hitpoint total first, and that means focusing down the weakest points, whether naturally occurring or created through tactics and strategy.

how about this

Take advantage of of weak points : Pay attention for stragglers, and try to enter situations, natural or manufactured, that can be used to isolate players away from their group and kill them. In a group or as an individual this will help maximize your survival as well as contributing to a hit point advantage for your team.

Don't get Isolated: try to remain at minimum, in a group of two, and avoid situations that will get you focused down by a larger group of opponents, If you find yourself in such situation by either mistake or ambush, attempt to retreat by utilizing your surroundings to negate their number advantage and reduce your damage intake, this will increase your chances of survival, and at the very least it will waste their valuable time

oh and my favorite

Lone Wolves and ECM: ECM is the solo player's best friend, this will guarantee your team always has one, and in the D-DC's case will usually cause your teammates to gravitate around you for both the ECM protection, as well as your ability to draw fire and deal damage, this means you have more dictation over team positioning without having to speak.

I know that commanders sometimes settled conflicts with a battle of representatives, but that's before the battle is fought so the losses of men and tech are minimized. That's not what the OP talked about, and it would not make any sense in MWO.

Well, we are in 3050, the Clan invasion is well underway and already, according to the story line, we are seeing Circle's of Equals, Circle's of Grievance, and some IS/Clan batchall's being issued. I think Honour FIghting fits in quite well with the current time period.

10. 'LEGGING' - This one is controversial because PGI seem inept at getting hit detection working correctly. Personally, I avoid destroying an opponent by destroying BOTH legs. It is dishonourable in my opinion. I will, if the situation calls for it, destroy one leg and leave the Warrior to fend for themself.

Welcome to the Inner Sphere Clanner!!!

And thus, the trolls enter the fray....

Why is it in the 'Help' forum, constructive 'help' is but a myth, a legend, a fanciful dream for those of us who try and have to wade through the sludge....

I digress.

If you have something constructive to add, do so. Trolling will fall on deaf ears here.

It has not happened in MWO yet and it is pretty much only used amongst clanners. Most IS pilots are too smart to play that game, since their mechs are sub-par in a 1v1. The IS troops even devised tactics basing on jumping clanners with several mechs since their pilots are only used to 1v1 situations and can't cope as well with them as IS pilots do.
