They're still around, just not branded as "Virtual World" centers.
http://www.mechjock.com/ has a list of places that had the pods running a version of MechWarrior 4 on it called Battletech: Firestorm. http://www.mechjock.com/main/sites/
Texas has two places that seem to get a lot of business. One is in Dallas and another is in Houston: http://vgcorps.com/ & http://mechcorps.com/
If you ever have a chance to strap in and play, you should do it. It's a great experience.

I played in them when they were part of Virtual World. It was sweet. They had an intro movie in an area before you went to your assigned pods. It was just too expensive to play all the time but I do miss them. Cool to see Dallas still running those. Wish I was still there.

I actually went to that one in Chicago back in '92...
Definitely still around ... I remember seeing them at GenCon a few times too. I hope they have them there this year!
