A intresting in depth article in the design process behind world creation.
We also get a peek at the upcoming Volcanoish map. With one point being on top of a lava field on a suspended gantry.

Glad they are working on the next map and I'm sure it will look great, but it will be overplayed the first two weeks, players will get sick of it and there won't be another map after it for another 6 weeks at least. PGI needs to not spend so much time on each map and release simpler maps (would be great if they included one every patch) and work on a detailed map in the background releasing it every 6 weeks or so.

I would have preferred an outer space themed map, either on an asteroid (small that you could run around from underneath), or a space station assault.

Looks exactly like the Volcano map from LL... which was better anyways.

Wow. I always thought the maps were good in this game. Now I know why.

Great read.

I always found LL's maps so much more vibrant. I really cannot put my finger on it but there seemed to be such a greater variety combined with an intensity that I seldom see anywhere else. Those volcanic explosions always gave me heartattacks!

I'm looking forward to that pit of lava: I want to see mechs instantly die when they fall off and land in it. This won't be a problem for heavies and assaults, but I know there are going to be a lot of light pilots, especially using JJ, who miscalculate their movement and then follow a beautiful parabolic trajectory to their immediate death.

Please let this be the case. :D

I rather they take their time and release a balance map.
Unlike counter strike, where there is a new map almost every week but in the end only a handful get played by the players.
Because they are badly designed or favour a particular play style or side.

Yes, make it so that it raise their heat by 50 every second as they remain in the lava.
Give the pilot enough to pray and scream obscenity before turning a pretty fireball.

There better be a good reason to go on those rails, else everyone will avoid it.

please please please bring back collisions with the launch of this map...

Knocking those pesky cappers into the lava will be thoroughly entertaining.

Perhaps the resource collector supended above the caldera will be a Super Collector -- capturing it will boost your resource total three times faster than the other collectors (or four, or five, whatever works). That would reward bold tactics in a big way.

You know this map makes me wish there was some system not to knock other mechs down but push them back; one that is more complicated than just hitting max throttle; a system where you had to know when to accelerate and decelerate based on the position on the two pushing mechs feet in the walk motion.

Why?

Assuming when we fall off the catwalks we fall through the map as a tribute to past PGI mapmaking.
