Why in the world wide web would I have to still own a mech to spend XP earned with it?

I sold a unit on account of not being able to progress with it further(since the progression system is already baseline @$?#%!$#), but had plenty of XP accumulated from the transition between "can't progress" and "can buy the next one", and now I cannot spend it unless I repurchase the unit.

Whose wonderful idea was for that to be the case?

I could understand if it was impossible to use General XP, since that would circumvent the(already baseline @$?#%!$#) progression system entirely, but for the love of internet, I already did my time with the unit, I shouldn't be forced to waste another couple million c-bills repurchasing and and reselling the unit just so I can spend the XP.

I'm confused. If you had XP just laying around in that variant why didn't you spend it all before you sold it...

I don't think this is an issue that people are going to get mad about. Except for you apparently.

Because that is one way for PGI to generate money. This system will 'seduce' you to buy additional mechbays which only can purchased by MC. No blame from me to PGI. They have to make money and this is a far better way than offering 'gold ammunition' or pimped chassis that gives you better benefits than the standard ones that you can get with ingame currency (c-bills). It is of course a hassle for people that want to stay in the free-to-play way but I think a few mechbays are affordable to everyone that have a computer and an internet connection (at least someone has paid for them).
