He was a good man, too bad his son messed up his legacy by creating the clans.

Be gone heretic! If anything his son surpassed his legacy. To create a society with a unified goal that prospered to even higher technological levels than that of the Star League and avoid millions of deaths from nuclear warfare? I'd say it was a win.
Unfortunately like all great societies, their great leaders cannot be so easily replaced, and his untimely passing is what led to the Clans decline. He was unable to complete his work, nor dictate in what manner the Clans should return to the Inner Sphere, ultimately birthing the Crusader/Warden split.
One day statues will be erected on Terra in his honor!
