I'll just chime in by saying that in any real world military force you will get your *** beat by pointing a live fire weapon at compatriots, let alone actually shooting them. If you don't have the discipline and intelligence to avoid fragging teammates outside of combat then go play Tetris or damn near anything else that does not involve other people. You obviously don't care any way because you don't know how to fix simple computer issues, have a massive case of ADHD, or are simply blind or mentally deficient.

There are cases where a game's screen may freeze, which is where you can still control your mech, shoot its' weapons and such, but nothing moves on your screen. Usually an alt+tab out and back will fix, but may take like up to 45 seconds for your screen to be fully in game, including the 1 second of moving followed by the short freeze.
I remember one game in Tourmaline where someone had to alt tab out and back, but accidentally hit a spider with an alpha. The mech survived and was able to... somewhat fight in the game of conquest. It was however legged.
I have accidentally shot people with various weapons, like medium lasers that I will lift up to try and not hit the teammates anymore. AC20's into the back of a hunchback while in my 733C and was zoomed. MG'd a friendly cicada that ran infront of my fire and in less then a second died, leaving me alone against the enemy mech (which I killed). Even friendly fire with LRMs in frozen city when I ran 3x LRM5's in a commando 2D, was near the big rock in the water facing the toppled cargo of the boat, was firing my LRM's at an enemy mech I had a lock on, and right after I lost lock due to noone have him targeted anymore, I fired a volly that had no lock, and hit the friendly mechs that were at the edge of the boat, and were more then 180m away from me. (By the way that was a good match, got over 600 damage I think.)
In each scenario I have apolagized. Maybe not right away usually due to the heat of the battle, but when out of it (like being dead) I will.

Slightly off topic, I remember when I was with a fellow merc, we were tagging eachother in Frozen City, and this teammate just starts trying to kill him. Basically at this point the only thing to do to save my friend there was to kill him, trying to leg this assault mech would of taken too long, especially since my fellow tagger was also an assault, and an LRM assault at that. Was quite hard for me since I believe I was running my C1 which has 3 medium lasers and a tag.

If I end up not shooting anyone, I see no reason to not continue doing what I do.

Why so hostile?

Common sense should tell you not to shoot in the general direction of friendlies, ´cause we all know where that "can" lead to .
Plus, do you take the time to type in a "sorry for ta ! " if you are in the middle of a melee ?

I do.
In my Lights/Mediums.
Circlefighting or evading at full speed/midair.
Fighting bad guys or helping out one of the team.
But I still can muster the common decency and courtesy to apologize to a teammate I just shot.
Because it matters.

And no I am not hostile, merely asking for some decency and common sense.
Just see what denial of above two stated human traits made me say.

I had that yesterday in a PUG match and it was really hard to concentrate on teh match because I was laughing so hard:

We were on Frozen City from the upper spawn doing the usual "no one will expect us to camp behind this dropship" setup when I see 3 mechs circling around us from the left (the old 7 line).

I type "3 Mechs including a DDC on our left flank" in team chat and try to maneuver so that I can cover both corridors

Suddenly someone types in teamchat "which *** teammate shot me from the left?" and I just think to myself great... we even have a teamkiller troll on our team as well... untill I see where that guy is standing... on our left side with no one near him and he is facing towards the dropship (mind you he is not even atempting to turn to see who is shooting him).

A few seconds later he types again "Stop shooting at me, I know its one of you ****** because I cant see anyone else close to me". By this time 2 of us are engaging the 3 mechs on the side who are just sitting back and trolling this guy (look out. shoot once and hide behind a building again).

After they do it agian he just goes apeshit in chat and throwing a really big Atlas sized fit about teammates to stupid to check who they are shooting at and promptly gets killed by the rest of the enemy team who decide to attack as well just while he is in mid rant... nut lucky for us... this didnt stop the foaming flood of digital spittle untill the match was over.

As a side note... even while we were engaging the 3 mechs on the side with only 2 of us... he was still concentrating fixedly on the ridge (and his keyboard).

Seriously... if you play the game... then you really should learn what weapon and module systems do (and no he was not a newb in a trial mech.. he was in a custom Heavy mech including 2 cool shot modules and should therefore also have played long enough to know about ECM and how it affects radar).

EDIT:

Im impressed. I dont have that time during a genaral melee range circling fight at all. I just wait till Im either dead or the fight is over to type anything... do you have a keyboard macro for "sorry for ta ! " maybe ? Does it happen that often to you?

I often shoot some weapons (mainly my lasers) to try and get an idea of how quickly I am likely to build heat. I find I need to due to my complete combat tunnel vision, but its a single shot with 2 lasers normally, and I very rarely hit anyone, its easy to be careful of what you shoot.

But then again yesterday a HBK I couldn't see turned sharply across my path and i caught him with the lasers, it happens sometimes, just apologise and get on with the game.

Just don't be an arse, it properly ruins the game, like the Jagermech who followed me for a minute then alpha'd me fully in the back, turning the internals orange (2 x AC20 I assume), then seemed to be confused when i was pissed off?

I later died to a single shot to the back which is the most annoying thing ever.

I agree, but sometimes it's not an accident... and we know. Yesterday I was piloting my 4H on canyon network. As soon as the match started I ran halfway up a hill to get a better view of what my teammates were piloting. a Catapult then proceeds to shoot me with 2, count it, two large lasers. My entire left side was yellow. I waited to see if there was an apology, an acknowledgement, anything really... Nothing. He calmly walks up the opposite hill. I take no pride in what I did next, but it certainly made me feel better, and made my point pretty well. I fired my AC/20 straight into his back center torso. He finally responded -- "You took it too far." Like he was a parent scolding a child. First, if you intentionally shoot someone, I think it would be pretty reasonable to expect to get shot back. Second, the person who intentionally shoots a teammate does not get to determine the appropriate response.

For the rest of the match, he took pot shots at me whenever I came into view. Childish.

I came here mostly to vent. This isn't the first time I've been hit with friendly fire, it happens all the time, but it shouldn't. Am I the only one who's getting tired enough of it to start shooting back?

Often i´m switching from my 2nd Screen to the Main Screen at the start of the match, sometimes it did made my Mech fire the Weapons bound to Mouse 1.

Luckily i just hit some environment by now if it happened.

So, it dont has to be intentionally, it could have been an accident.

(i apologize for my bad english :D )

Pulling up in front of another who is obviousy engaging is worse than any kind of accidental friendly fire. Shoot back? Thats just ridiculous.

But what REALLY not to do is drop comments lite "sad" and "uninstall" to another player who looses a fight with two mechs alone, not noticing that one of them has no weapons.

But i guess every online game has its fair share of ********.

No macro used, as PGI doesnt allow us to rapid fire keypushing sequences into the game at normal speeds (10ms per keypush and faster if keyboard is able, which would be how I would configure a macro).
So I am deliberately taking the time, the experience being able to do that comes from playing ArmA, where I am sometimes shooting info/requests at mates in different chats (team, general, command, command, close proximity), using in-game VOIP and TS .

One gets used to it, plus :
"Because it matters"

Downside of this : keyboards wear quite fast, but hey

I used to tell people to just aim into the sky and fire at the start of the match, not like your giving away postionings... Then my spider got Alpha one game when i was jump jetting around like a dumb dumb at the start of the match. that one had me laughing....

Oh the other hand, My atlas seems to take and overwhelming amount of Friendly fire at the start of matches, I'll confess, I've had t he Lance mates Leg people for it before. It gets really freaking old after the 20th time. If you have to test fire, Turn your mech and shoot away from your team mates..

Edit button hates me, so one more thing

when it comes to a brawl, if i eat a friendly alpha, dont apologize :) I understand the heat vision FF to. It helps to be able to laugh about it to, the other day my buddy blew my spider up when i was chasing another mech (Stupidly) And ate all the LRMS he was out running.
