Why The Matchmaker And Gametypes Are Not A Priority

Example
"assault the base"
8v8 or 12v12 depending on map
Each lance will have it's own objective
Each lance will have a predetermined composition
Example
Alpha
2 assault
2 heavy
Beta
2 Heavy
2 Medium
Charlie
2 Medium
2 Lights
The other side will maybe have the same, or a totally different composition. The match will not launch until each slot is filled.
#######
We are currently only playing what will become "quickmatch" or "instant action" gametypes. The community warfare game will be "scenarios" and will negate much of the matchmaker grief we are all having. I'd go even further and say that scenarios and rewards will be "tiered" according to the progression of the mechs and/or pilots ie: You cannot run this scenario until Rank X.
Just a thought.

Because currently, that's exactly how it's looking so far.

It will lead to some interesting matches. Its just I hope the playerbase is large enough so that games can actually be fought. And if it does take a bit to get into a match, then the rewards are upped to compensate (this is to appease the 'need a carrot' crowd).
Even if this doesn't turn out, private matches will fit the bill as leagues will be able to pick up the slack that CW leaves behind, so either way, we'll be in an alright situation.

Are my expectations high? Not anymore... been here from CB through the various **** storms that PGI have self inflicted and seen both their response to this community, the forums and their belief that everything they think is hunky-dori is fine by them (ECM just one example).

How about we manage to get a game where shooting people actually hurts them first.

The hit detection thing is a cryengine thing. Lets hope further work arounds (HSR like things) can help with this.

Until they give a detailed account of how things like 3rd person / 1st person will be handled in CW I won;t place all my faith in it saving the game.

Not directed at you AC but as long as they do not listen to the Negative Nancy, Forum Blow Hards, that just think they know best, then things will be ok as well.
Yes, the critics on the forum have so much power. They are causing all of the problems. If only they could be stopped!
And you're right, PGI does know best. They know so well that I quit playing long ago.

To believe on the basis of words and plans hasn't boded so well for us. I wouldn't be so quick to believe anything yet until it's implemented.

Regardless of that adding stock mode is still a good move.
PROs:
takes under 1 hour to program in by a semi competent programmer
---add an option to launch menu if you have a stock or trial mech selected
---have matchmaker use only players selecting that option to create a game
---Celebrate (this likely will take most of that 1 hour)
Mode is newbie friendly (no min/maxed mechs so playing field is far more even for a trial mech)
Many people interested in lore wish for this mode (probably bring back some players that have quit)
Makes non stock mode matches more even and better (don't have tons of newbies in trial mechs turning matches into roflstomps)
Even after CW is added most matches will still be of the present types. So this mode would still add tons.
CONs:
might reduce numbers playing other modes especially if everyone prefers it.
AND if it fails it can be removed in even less time that it took to add it.

Relating to the thread's title, IMHO I feel we have only two games modes because that was all that was needed in order for us to get out there and start fighting. Assualt to cater to heavies and assualts, conquest to get more feedback on lights and meds.
While things like hit detection, how lrms should play out, what happens when assault boats (and now heavy boats with the quickdraw) hit the Meta, jump sniping with assualts, and other game mechanics were figured out, resources for game modes were moved to other projects.
Had PGi not run into such severe engineering issues due to the cryengine we'd most likely would have had more modes released. Either that or the limited number of people continuously playing during beta may not have supported more game modes.
