Poll: Thoughts on Balancing Clans (8 member(s) have cast votes)

Do you think any of these are a good way to balance the Clans

  1. No mixture of Clan/IS tech (5 votes [22.73%])

    Percentage of vote: 22.73%

  2. Numbers balance such as a star v. two lances (Possibly with consideration of #3) (5 votes [22.73%])

    Percentage of vote: 22.73%

  3. A tonnage blanace (Possibly with consideration of #2) (5 votes [22.73%])

    Percentage of vote: 22.73%

  4. Locking Clan combat in to match score, such as pentalties for focus fire, unless the IS has breached 'Clan' honour (4 votes [18.18%])

    Percentage of vote: 18.18%

  5. All of the above (3 votes [13.64%])

    Percentage of vote: 13.64%

  6. None of the above (0 votes [0.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 0.00%

If you want to plan Clan, do you want to do so without any type of 'honour' restrictions?

  1. Yes (2 votes [25.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 25.00%

  2. No (6 votes [75.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 75.00%

I don't recall seeing a thread discussing the various likely/possible ways that PGI may balance the Clans when they bring them in. However, I have no doubt the thread(s) already exist, so I apologise in advance for probably re-treading old ground...

Thinking to how the Clans were balanced in the lore, they were primarily bound by zellbrigen, which boils down to:

1) Favouring one-on-one combat
2) Favouring taking on a superiour foe(s)*

* In the sense of not only the skill of the opposing Mechwarrior, but numbers as well.

Thus is post/poll....Or please point me towards an existing discussion if you're aware of one.

I think trying to score players based on duels is probably going to be too much. Drop numbers and tonnage would be fine, and I would really prefer they keep the techs separate so that IS tech has a purpose.

Also, omnis must not be able to alter their engines, armor, or structures -- that combined with the mismatched numbers might be enough to give IS a fighting chance. Second line mechs should act like the current IS models (only with clan tech), so again, the mismatched player count will help

As for this topic existing elsewhere...there has been a fair amount of discussion about how the clans should be balanced, but they usually got buried under bigger topics. PGI doesn't want to give out any details (or they don't have any yet), so there is no telling how they are going to balance the clans.

While those are the 'rules' from TT, I can't imagine them following that in MWO. Just can see it. Could be wrong though, obviously.

There are no Clans.
The Clans do not exist.
The Clans are a myth.
You have been warned.
