1. Control Panel, Power Options, set to Best Performance (prevents CPU throttle unless heat related, will touch base later)
2. Nvidia Control Panel, Power management mode, Set to Max Performance.
3. Run game in Full Windowed mode instead of Full Screen mode.
4 Do you hear the fans kick into high gear or hardly any change? Suggest utilizing tools, either in Nvidia or using program like MSI afterburner to have more control over fans. What are the temps?
5. How many of the cores is the game running on? Check Task manager or use Process Explorer.
6. Clean out the dust from the heat sinks and make sure the fans are actually running.

GPU may be throttled due to heat, as one or the other is running taking up GPU at 100% in Full Screen mode. What is your FPS in Full Screen (F9 in game is now available again).

Now change to Full Windowed. What is the FPS now? If it was running more than 60FPS previously in FS, Windowed Mode cap at 60 FPs will reduce the workload on the system, thus reducing the heat output and power consumption.

1. Done
2. Done
3. Done
4. No they don't spin up. CPU Temp 62 GPU 69
5. CPU's between 5 and 6
6. Done

FPS 6.9 - 34 with it just jumping around. Low or Very High Settings don't effect it.

I've found in my system that I can run everything nice and high except shadows.
Shadows to low and I get over 60 fps

not saying it'll work on your machine, but give it a shot

Back up abit.

What is the brand and model of the motherboard? Have you installed the motherboard/chipset drivers for it?

Change the game's resolution to a lower one.

Bring up task Manager
Performance Tab. When in the Mech lab and in combat, at the beginning when moving out, what is the CPU speed listed at? And the CPU usage?

And are you using anything to monitor/tweak the Nvidia card? On the monitoring, to note how much of the GPU is being used. And how much memory is being used?

Dedicated Memory: 978 MB
Shared Memory: 3071 MB (using system memory)

*******************************************************

http://www.techarp.c....aspx?artno=522

Ya will need the GPU-Z and check that your motherboard is not being affected by the 1x bug

Also use CPU-Z to monitor CPU speeds.

Sorry, it appears I am all over the place.

1. Program(s) to monitor CPU - speed, core usage and heat with constant updates (and ability to log said info)
2. Program(s) to monitor GPU - speed, usage, heat, as well as memory usage (and log said info)

MWO doesn't utilize more than 4 cores effectively. You can try the Prifinity 2 program suggested by smokeyjedi I know it doesn't work in Windows 8 but it might help you. If that doesn't do the job, based on the benchmarking threads I can tell you that mwo requires high clock rates from zambezi CPUs to get remotely playable FPS. So you should try disabling half of each module and then overclock your CPU as fast as possible.

I just wanted to give an update. I think I may have tracked down my problem. My motherboard was varying the voltage into the CPU and my Speed would hold steady at 3.3ghz then drop to 1.3ghz for a few seconds and this was matching up to the FPS issue. I turned off the variable voltage and the frame rate is a lot more solid now. I see it drop into the 18's at times but it is playable.

I did overclock it and I saw some studdering in the graphics like something was bottlenecking. I will experiment some more with that.

To the OP:

What mobo is this? Plus does this issue happen in any other game etc? What I'm thinking is that cool n quiet may need to be disabled. That will change the multiplier and slow the speed of the chip, depending on the motherboard it may not be a bad idea to disable it just to see what happens.

It is a ASRock 970 Extreme 4. I did disable Cool N Quiet as well and it has made an improvement. I am still not where I feel I should be on frame rate.

I had the same problem, framerate would drop to 4-8 fps every time cool n quiet lowered the cpu speed. Windowed mode, lowering resolution and lowering quality made no difference. My processor is a AMD Phenom X4 940 (AM2+) on a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 motherbord. The problem was not videcard related, i swapped my Radeon 7770 for a GTX650 TI Boost and this made no difference. Now i am using AMD Overdrive to disable cool n quiet while playing MWO. this solves the problem for me. This also improves the level loading time.

That's a really good mobo; I have the Intel Z77 counterpart myself.

MWO saw a massive fps drop with some of the latest patches in general, so accounting for that, 18fps minimums aren't desireable, but it sounds about right for an 8120. Hopefully they'll be able to bring in some serious optimizations to get it at least where it was before, at which point you should get at least ~30fps minimums, if not higher. My 3570k at 4.2ghz -vs 3.6 stock 4 core turbo- was getting between 60 and 70fps minimums, and usually ran 80-90, and it dropped to 45 with the 12v12 patch, so I'm extrapolating from that.

If PGI can't get optimizations sufficient to get the DX9 client back to where it was, then DX11 should take care of that for us. It'll shift the load massively away from the CPU, and should improve the DX11 performance by virtue of being a more efficient API in general.

I'm running older hardware and the game is playing great for me even after last patch. Have you tried using the MWO repair tool?
